amy hatfield has an excellent story on the front page of this site. you just went past it....:(. now, turn back and read it. it's about crested butte colorado, where our november 1 elk hunt is to take place. i've been there many times, and it's perfect. that's where snapper got a nice elk last hunt, and where jeff & charlie will kill and elk in 6 weeks. care to join us for some fun and a good chance at an elk???;)

Steve-

You are killing me with all this elk talk. I went on my first elk adventure in Montana a couple years ago, and am itching to get back after them. It is hard leaving mama (full-time bread winner working hero) with 3 kids 7 and under (2 go to school 20 miles West of home, she works 20 miles East). I keep telling myself that is one of the reasons I stay in shape (flatlander style), so I can still hunt when I am old and it is not such a logistical nightmare. I'd like to share camp with you guys sometime.

Crested Butte reminds me of another ghost town out that way called Tincup :D

Tincup is neat. I like old towns/ghost towns like that. When we were there, Pete, Gregg & I did a little site seeing there, not sure if they wanted to or not, but I was driving.:D:D:D I have a bunch of pictures of the town & even a few from the cemetary, (morbid I know, but kind of cool) click on my pics link and go to the Colorado elk hunt album 2006.

When I went through Crested Butte over Labor Day weekend, it was anything but a ghost town. There were people all over the place. It was dark when I went through it, but I think I might make a swing by there during the daylight in a few weeks, looks like an interesting place also.

How much is the hunt/license and such?

Norm, here is a copy of what I posted in the elk hunt thread.

The tag can be purchased either in Co. before the day the season starts, or on line early enough so it can be mailed to you. You have to buy both the elk tag and a habitat tag. The total for non-resident is $531. We will be hunting on public land, so there is no fee's there. We will be camping on public land, no fee there. From Steve's post in the lounge, I will have my tent, he will have his. Each can sleep 3 -4 comfortably, I will be by myself, I think he has one buddy coming with him, and hopefully Jim will show up, so if you want there will be plenty of tent space for you or you can bring your own tent, camper or stay in town at a motel. Charlie will be there with his travel trailer.

So the expenses you would have are the license, gas to get there, bring a little food to throw into the pot. A cot & sleeping bag, gun & shells. WARM clothes.

Maybe a few other minor odds & ends but that is the jist of it.
