Guest Andrea
I put out some a couple of weeks ago. Haven't checked them yet to see if they are being eaten yet. Anyone else use these and how are you using them? Any luck?
jerdanmagic
I have several mineral sites that I refresh throughout the year. From my experience, it takes them a month or so for them to show any interest. Once the minerals leach into the ground, they really hit it hard. I use Deer Cane, powder & liquid. The pigs like it too!
Guest Andrea
I put them where I normally scatter the corn. Will that matter? Or they have to leach into the ground first? How about salt licks?
wtnhunt
We have a pretty well established mineral site that I keep minerals in Andrea. I use a camera at that site, and it is at an edge of a food plot and the woods. That site sees a lot of activity, however seems right now the bachelor groups of bucks coming through our property are coming in cycles and are not here every day. Still hundreds of acres surrounding us in ag crops, suspect once those come out will start seeing a bit more regular activity in the way of bucks. Jorden
I have a few sites where I dump minerals regularly. I usually will dump just minerals january thru july and then I will mix them with something like acorn rage or something else because I have noticed that around August the deer go away from the minerals becuase I typically dont get as many pictures over my licks. BearClaw
I've had several trace mineral blocks out since spring and I've got lots of pictures of deer just hamering them! Had bachelor buck groups at them during the night. Our season started on the 15th and I was out on the evening of the 15th and had 3 does come in and another doe Saturday morning. I'm thinking also that I need to start adding some corn and apples to up the ante. I just have a gut feeling they are looking more for food right now. The mineral blocks have them in the area but I think I need more right now.

Rhino
We have 16 mineral licks that we freshen up every year on our club. We add our mineral mix to our licks in May since they are mainly used during the warmer months. Once the cooler months get here activity at mineral licks drops off dramatically on my home turf. How do we use them? Well they are mainly put out in order for the minerals to be available to the deer during the antler growing period and fawning period. They really aren't much use for hunting purposes other than just doing something else to help the overall health of the deer herd. However, they are great places to put trail cameras to get a feel for the quality of deer using a particular area.
