Dakota
Hey all, Well I picked up my very first box of Hevi Shot today. I know, hard to believe isn't it? :D:D Anyways, I've got a quick question for y'all. Have any of you shot the 12 gauge 3" 1 1/2 oz. shot 1350fps 2 shot? This would be the blue and tan box with the goose on front. How does it pattern out of a 28" fixed full choke? I'm primarily going to be using it for geese and long range ducks. Any help would be great, thanks! Dakota
DU_man_84
never shot that stuff, prolly never will shoot any of that fancy new duck loads, but i would say you would prolly have to pattern it yourself and see how it performs, cause every shell patterns different out of every gun, me and a buddy have the same exact guns, bought them same place same time, mine patterns winchester dryloks, supremes and experts awesome, his gun doesnt pattern winchester as good as mine, i would say get out there and pattern it yourself, would hate to pattern those expensive shells but id suggest it

Dakota
Okay, well let me ask you this, would a 26" barrel fixed modified choke be a little better for my situation in you honest opinion? Dakota
dogdoc
Okay, well let me ask you this, would a 26" barrel fixed modified choke be a little better for my situation in you honest opinion? Dakota probably not but you never know unless you pattern both guns--BTW--were you not just complaining about not having any money and can't pay your bills but you can afford Hevi-shot. I don't even pay the extra for Hevi-Shot and I can pay my bills:confused:
Dakota
Well, I got things worked out, and realized I had more money than I originally thought and declined the loans until next semester. Besides, I get a good discount at Sportsman's Warehouse. Dakota
98chevy
I bought three cases this year. I absoulutly love it. I will never shoot cheap stuff again. Not cuss I cant kill ducks but I normally have to do 2 shots to kill the duck. So I switched ove and bought a box last year. It was night and day for me. I like the 3" though. I bought both though. BowtechTurkeyHunter
Asking if that ammo will pattern out of you gun without you shooting it is a tough thing ... I can shoot 3.5 black cloud out of my gun but my buddys gun doesn't pattern worth a darn and they are both Benelli 26" ... Why did you choose that stuff over say Winchester or something a bit more economical? Given your current financial situation ... Leo
The Hevi loads seems to work best for me and everyone I hunt with best pushed through a MODIFIED or LIGHT MODIFIED choke. I've used quite a bit of the Hevi Shot 1350 3 1/2in stuff in both 2s and 4s. It is without a doubt more effective than steel. It is also slower than steel so it does take a little getting used to getting your leads right. The Winchester Supreme Elite Xtended Range High Density stuff is even heavier stuff. It runs about the same speed as the Hevi Shot and is usually even more expensive. The big advantage of this stuff is you can run it through a full choke with great success. Like most folks I can't afford to shoot only this stuff on a hunt. Because of this, I've found, I'm kinda stuck with keeping the modified choke in the gun for the hunt, so I don't have to switch chokes in the middle of the hunt. If the action is so hot you burn through a couple boxes of this stuff in no time, that means two things. One, changing a choke in the field is gonna cost you some shots. Two, you don't need the advantage it gives you in the first place. Federals Ultra Shok High Density stuff seems to be the best compromise if you are shooting steel too. It's speed is about 1450fps, patterns through a modified well and has significantly more punch than steel. In my experience this stuff stones ducks even harder than the much vanted Hevi's.
