Do you prefer bowhunting or gun hunting for deer?

Me I prefer bow hunting. Over the last 20 years I have definately seen more good deer while bowhunting. Come gun season, seems all the good bucks find the nearest rock and crawl under.

Not much of a choice there...BOWHUNTING!!!

See more deer, there's fewer hunters in the woods, up close and personal is what counts, excitement level is much higher with those close encounters, and it's just a more peaceful hunting experience than hearing rifles roar around the countryside while you're hunting.

I enjoy hunting deer, period. Bow, Gun, Slingshot, RPG. Doesn't matter. In all seriousness I like rifle season best. In the words of the late Davey Allison, "Son, you need to put that bow down and get something that goes boom!" It maybe because I am new to bowhunting and only shot one deer, which I could not find.

My all time favorite hunting is old fashion "deer drives" where my entire family can be involved. Those were the most fun I had hunting.

I may be a little prejudiceon this question!!I have never bow hunted so my favorite is rifle!!Don't get me wrong if i had a bow and was confident in my shot i would and can't wait to bow hunt!!That said i do agree the bow hunting brings out a different hunter!!You have to really hunt for your game and the excitement that comes with being that close to your game would be awesome!!So what i have done is try to put the ol i will sit out in the edge of a big field and shoot 300 yrds theroy away!!I look for the rubs, scrapes, bedding and try to get as close as i can!!

I enjoy both bow hunting and gun hunting. However, I must say that bowhunting is my favorite by a mile. To me, bowhunting is more of what hunting is really about. It requires some pretty good woodslore skills and an intimate knowledge of the prey. It also is an activity that in most cases can be done in an atmosphere of solitude and peace and quiet without the hordes of orange-coated mobs parading through the woods. Also, in 99.9% of the situations, any successes can be attributed to the bowhunter having done everything right in a skillful fashion, not just being in the right place at the right time for an unfortunate deer to have been driven to you by some other hunter's blunderings.

However, there are some misfortunes that occur during bow season that puts a hunter in the mood for revenge. Ha-ha. That is why it is fortunate that gun season immediately follows bow season.

I Love bow season and knowledge that a big deer could at any time walk right up to me and the challenge of trying to get them deer close enough for the stick and string.

HOWEVER

I am the only one of my family members that bow hunt but several of them gun hunt, and I really do look forward to the stories the family hunts and the big deer drives and I do love my slug guns and Muzzle loader.

SO I guess I cant pick and suppose I wouldn't want to. I could never give one up for the other.....I would give up fishing for Hunting

I prefer bowhunting over gun hunting as much by choice as by force.

I've had the "pleasure" of working for 21 years for an outfit that will only let one guy off for gun season. I don't have enough seniority to be that guy. In that regard a guy learns to become a bowhunter. :o

That being said...........I much prefer to hunt with the bow anyways. But there's a social element to gun season when cousins and uncles are back home to hunt that I miss big time.

i hunted with a rifle for about 12 years all we did was deer drives with about 20 people it was fun with the all of the comradery and all... i never even shot a bow until i started guideing with central plains outfitters 2 years ago my boss got me into bow hunting he told me if i bow hunted one time i will never pick up a rifle again he was right the first time i was ten yards from a deer i couldnt even breath i never got that excited before about deer hunting i love the getting up at 4am siting in the tree stand its best therapy in the world all of my problems go way when im in the stand and the nature around me and having deer so close to me it takes alot more skill i think to stand up and get your bow drawed back with out them see you at 10 yards away then having a deer out there 300 yards away and jus pullin the trigger and your done so i gotta agree that i like bow hunting better then rifle

Bow without question...

I get shotgun tags every year basically to give me a really good reason to spend time with friends and be out in the woods...you can't bow hunt during shotgun season so i might as well get a gun tag or two and see what happens. when it comes to gun hunting i generally end up drinking more beer than hunting anyway; its always fun celebrating a few kills with friends who don't bow hunt...Its their time of the year!
