Re: Talk to me about my buddy\'s mount (pics)

There are a few things I look for right away. First things first, does it look real? Next I look at the nose, or the muzzle. Check for cracks in the paint, or missing paint. Third I look into the ears. Are there any visible stitches? And if you get real technical you can start doing measurements such as from the base of the ears to the tip of the nose, etc..

Overall, I would say this mount looks pretty good. The only thing I'd be concerned about is it looks like it has some big scratches in the cape. Were those there before he brought it in to be mounted?

Thanks GW for your opinion! grin.gif I thought it looked pretty good myself, but I am an amatur not finding much help. Of course every taxi I talk to says theirs is the best, every other guy's is the worst. They won't tell me what to look for in a good mount, other than look at the eyes, look at the ears. This one looks pretty lively to me (except he doesn't move much grin.gif). Only bad jobs I know are where I am seeing foam, wringled lips, eyes popping out....you know, the obvious. wink.gif

Brent is one of the best taxidermist around. He also puts out some of the best looking whitetails mounts out there. I recommend him to anyone who wants quality work.
