toddyboman
So I have a couple plots that have A LOT of foxtail in them.......The food plot mix stuff came up too and looks decent.....but there is lots of fox tail in the plot too.(I will try and get pics later) I'm sure the seed was laying dormant in the ground and when we worked up the ground it germinated just like everything else......but my question is what about next year.......what should I or can I do to NOT have all this foxtail next year too??? Ravin R10 man
spray Poast..fall application will work..but get it before the frost does otherwise do a late spring application after it comes up.
toddyboman
Thanks....but will the Poast harm my Turnips/clover/alfalfa/wheat/food plot mixture of stuff???
dogdoc
Thanks....but will the Poast harm my Turnips/clover/alfalfa/wheat/food plot mixture of stuff??? nope (except the wheat)---I love yellow foxtail--for my duckpond--it is a great seed for song birds and even game birds. by now the foxtail probably already has mature seeds so spraying now will kill any green foxtail but the problem will be next spring and summer when all those seeds germinate. Poast will kill your wheat but by next spring it won't matter about the wheat. It will actually open the canopy up and help your alfalfa and clover. Tominator
I hate that stuff. It's in my sweet corn every year. I imagine poast will kill sweetcorn, no?
dogdoc
I hate that stuff. It's in my sweet corn every year. I imagine poast will kill sweetcorn, no? yep--will kill it dead! I wonder if they make a round up ready variety of sweetcorn?
Tominator
yep--will kill it dead! I wonder if they make a round up ready variety of sweetcorn? I've heard of varieties, but have not seen them in my area yet. It would be nice to get some as 2-4-D won't hurt sweetcorn too bad, but it does nothing for the weedy crabgrass stuff like foxtail.
