duxndeer
I have been scouting for awhile now and have found where I am goin to hunt opening morning, the problem is where to actually set up. I have a creek bed with plenty of water( bonus) and you can tell the deer are using it, and the hogs. About 70 yards accross the creek along the deer trail there is 8-10 trees rubbed really hard and one rubbed only on one side and in the front(maybe big maybe small but its a 7 inch in diameter tree). There is no hog sign in the woods. Would yall hunt the creek or the woods? Both have really good open shooting lanes with plenty of tree cover behind me and the sun at my back. Any advice
wtnhunt
I would hunt them both. A stand near water especially around a crossing can be very productive. Might set a stand there and set a stand in the hardwoods for a different wind.
fly
I like to hunt 20 yards from a creek (on the uphill side if there is a hill). It's fairly warm right now and deer will be near water. Need to factor the wind too.
hyperflow
IF its posible to set up 2 tree stands just set it up for 2 diffrent winds, and opening morning hunt the correct one for the wind.
Turkeygirl
Set up a stand in each spot if you can, try and see if you can tell which way the deer are coming from, factor in your wind direction, and go from there. either way the deer probably travel through both areas. Tominator
Thing you have to watch about creek bottoms are shifty winds. I love hunting a bottom, but you really have to have a consistent wind to hunt them, otherwise you're toast.
shockwave
I would lean towards the hardwoods if it was an oak flat, Deer can hear acorns dropping from a mile away, lol..I would watch the creek bottom though,, because as it cools off scent tends to sink,so set your treestand wisely.. Zambo
I agree, you have to play the wind. But I like the creek bed. Cover, water and they may move longer in the morning and early in the evening if the cover is right.
hyperflow
I normaly dont like hunting creek beds if theres running water you can hear. Last year i hunted a creek bottom and all i could hear was the water running. Kinda took away one of my tools to spot deer and get ready. Drove me nutz anyways, last time i hunted there.
