Hey, I haven't forgotten about this. You might recall I said I have this plant that grows like weeds here in Ohio that the deer in my field use as cover for bedding down in. At first I thought it was some type of viburnum, but now I think it is Red Osier Dogwood. I can bare root some to you now that it's dormant if you want. It will grow best in wet areas, and I don't know if it would grow in a well drained area.

For other species to plant, also look into multiflora rose and russian olive or autumn olive.

Do you want a bedding area in the woods or do you want to convert an old field? In woods you'll need to open up the canopy by taking out the largest trees. The additional sunlight will encourage new growth. Leave the treetops lay where they fall. In an old field, just let it grow. Nature will take its course and you'll have good bedding cover in a few years.
