Jeramie
A guy here at the office brought me a handful (about 10) of what he called Crow Killers. They are a plastic round chambered in 7.62x51. He said they are only accurate for about 40 yards but whatever they hit they destroy. They are blue in color and sure enough they are plastic!? Anyone else seen these or have any idea what they are? Im a little leary about shoothing them out of my Ruger.
wtnhunt
Never heard of them Jeramie. Are they full of shot or do they have a bullet?
Jeramie
Nope, they are a bullet...... and the bullet is plastic!
johnf
I would think that would be a nightmare to clean out of your gun.
Jeramie
I dont know if I can post this or not. Its blocked here at the office but I found this shot of ammo. Its the blue bullet in the middle if you can see it...
doubleA
Anything that is BLUE color tells me it's a training round of some sort. Probably a low powered round that propels a plastic bullet used in training. You still have the bang and projectile but alot safer than full power loads that are using real bullets. I am sure just as in blanks cartridges, they can be very leathal at close range.
Jeramie
The guy that gave them to me told me they have about a 40yard range. He said they will literally explode anything they hit. He called them "Crow Killers." I guess they vaporize crows....
wtnhunt
Can see the pic fine Jeramie. Have never seen a round like that.
Rem308
That's a new one for me...I have to agree w/ the training theory, but like he said, I can see that being effective for short range (IE 40 yards).

aksheephuntress
...isn't this another Russian military round, similiar to the 762 x 54 ? -I saw some of the same, the last time I was on our range, here...-caught my eye- thought it was different... -although, these casings were in the only 100-yard lane on our range.... The 7.62x51 Nato was brought out as a military cartridge, that's the metric designation. Winchester made it into a civilian/commerical cartridge and named it the 308 Winchester. As a side note, the 30-06 could be called 7.62x63. The 06, 308 and the russian round are pretty close in ballistics.

whitetailhunter32210
the 7.62x51 and the 7.62x54r are very close balistically but the 7.62x54r has much more recoil and will destroy whatever it hits. I have a mosin nagant that shoots the 7.62x54r and a spanish mauser that shoots 7.62x51. The mosin kicks alot more and leaves a huge hole in whatever you hit. The plastic bullets I have seen at gun shows but never knew what they were used for. The look pretty cool
Grant-KS
http://www.dansammo.com/ammo.asp Scroll to the bottom in the surplus section. If you like 'em, you can buy alot more! They say accurate to 300 meters, but who knows. Another site said lethal to 100 yards. Just saw the post and did a google search.
