AJ
What is it?! Im my opinion, it's probably the best varmint round ever created. Thats all. Remington engineer Jim Stekl, started was experimenting with cartridges trying to find the optimum case for accuracy. They started with the .308 Winchester case and 'played around' with the length and ended up with a short fat cartridge that shot outstanding groups. This was back in 1978, quite a while before the short fat craze that is going on today. The cartridge that they ended up with is 1.520" long compared to the 2.015" case for the parent .308 Win. The BR case also uses small rifle primers vs large rifle primers on the .308 case. The case also has a .080" flash hole. Jim Stekl shot a much publicized 0.1776" aggregate for 25 shots at 100 yards in a Remington 40x target gun. Granted he is a superb shot but the cartridge is outstanding! Ammo for the 22 BR is reloaded only. There is no commercial ammo offered by big ammo makers. the 22 BR will shoot very close to 22-250 speeds. It is a super accurate round, thus making it a dream to pop gophers or prarie dogs out to 500 yards with. Remington also commercialized the 6mm BR and 7mm BR. Again there is no factory ammo, so the shooter must reload their own. I have dreamed about building a 22 BR for a while now. I have a 22 PPC that is close but a bit (just over 200 fps) slower. I hope I have given you the info you wanted. If you want any more, just ask.
