Ouch--that hurt....

I don't know if you guys remember but right before bow season I was helping my brother tune his bow and I shot his bow quite a bit. His draw length is about 1 1/2 too long for me and he pulls back 72#---compared to my 60#--well anyway i hurt something in my shoulder. I didn't shoot for a week and it got better but never completely went away. It would still flare up after shooting my bow and would hurt after shooting my rifle or shotgun. Well today I went to the orthopod--Rads were negative and he diagnosed bursitis and gave me a steroid injection in the shoulder---now talk about uncomfortable--OUCH!

He said it should be better in a week then I can start shooting again---if it flares up again he wants to do a MRI to make sure there isn't anything torn.

Hopefully this will do the trick.

Re: Ouch--that hurt....

Todd, I'd be real careful about that. My Dad was lifting a heavy package at work and had some soreness. He went to the doc and they told him it was nothing. About a month later he lifted something else, and pop, he torn is rotator cuff. Aparently the first soreness was a partcial tear and the second lift did it in. That was about a year ago and he still can't play golf. confused.gif

I'd get a second opinion...JMHO

Re: Ouch--that hurt....

Travistodd-

I did basically the same thing a year or 2 ago. Had not shot in a while, then starting shooting a bunch as soon as I got a new bow. Best way is to start SLOW after not shooting for a while. Get those muscles toned. I know where your shoulder hurts....right in the joint. Feels like something torn, doesn't it. wink.gif Mine hurt for quite some time. Doesn't bother me any more, but I sure learned a lesson....don't shoot too heavy of a draw weight and start SLOW!!!! Not worth risking never shooting a bow again without pain.

Re: Ouch--that hurt....

Dogdoc,

Got the same deal in my elbow. Just went to get my steroids and naproxen today. Said if that doesn't work, I'll get a shot.

Good luck with your's. I sure know what you're going through.

Getting old stinks. wink.gif

Re: Ouch--that hurt....

Got a cortisone shot in my wrist a few years back after thinking I broke my arm again and breaking down and going to an ortho surgeon who I was referred to by a local ortho doctor. Went in to discuss correcting the mobility and discomfort problems I was experiencing with my arm and wrist, and he would not listen to me and insisted the shot would be a cure all. Will never do that ever again. Not only did it not help, it hurt for quite some time after the shot. The only relief I get is taking aleve.

Hope it gets better Todd, but my experience the shot did not help at all.

Re: Ouch--that hurt....

Good luck with the shoulder....hopefully the injection and the oral anti-inflammatories will work.

They did not for me and I had to get the operation with an original intention of shaving the acromion bone only. They got in and found some bursitis and a partial thickness tear. They repaired all of it. I took my son to the doctor the next day and my daughter the day after that. Recovery was a non-event.

I can honestly say that the worst part of the entire process was the cortizone shot! It was horrible because he started the needle in, changed directions and went a little further, and then changed direction again. Then it was like trying to inject partially set up elmers glue through a needle and into the joint. It hurt worse the next three days.

Best of luck,
