hyperflow
I been using scent blocker for 3 years now, I allways cleaned it with a "hunting clothe wash" But from reading more they say you can just pop your stuff in the dryer and it will recharge your carbon? But they sell all these carbon reactivators, And some big names say not to do that because it brings down the life spand of the carbon? Geez im all confused now on what 2 do. Dryer only or carbon activator? and wash clothe as least as posible? I would allways clean my clothe every time id use it !!! I put this in the bow section because thats all i do is bow hunt
HOYTnMUZZYboy
I wash mine as lil as possible. If its warmer out il carry my jacket in my backpack. I "recharge" mine 3 times a year or so. After awhile like anything it does wear out im sure. Thats why its always a safe bet to hunt with the wind in your favor as well . Both of the deer I shot today were downwind of me when they were harvested. I was in full SB gear. Rather I was high enough or the thermals were taken my scent up im not sure, but reguardless its nice to have the SB, but at the same time it only works so well. It's just another tool in the hunters toolbox. I use the detergent from scentblocker and throw it in the dryer either night b4 i go out or an hour b4 i go out. They say to put them in for 45min but who knows if the everyday dryer gets hot enough to actually activate the carbon completely. So far what I have done hasn't let me down yet (knock on wood) Let us know what you decide to do with yours.
fly
Not sure how much the scent clothes work:confused:. Wind and elevation I feel are more important. I use both types SB and SL and use the dryer to activate a couple times in a season. I wash only when bloody, rained on, or muddy. I'm a strong believer in reducing scent by moisture wicking clothes and this year I'm using scent(less) rubber boots. Had a spike buck smell my 3 hour old foot prints in the snow last year and bolt like it had seen a ghost.
hyperflow
Also another question. I just bought 3 new scent blocker suits (not worn yet) Should i wash them since im sure they been handled a bit b4 i got them. I bought Dead down wind clothe wash, carbon reactivator, Dryer sheets and field spray. So should i wash them with reactivator? And then pop them in the dryer with the dryer sheets? Should i was Wash them with the clothe wash then dryer sheets? OR should i just pop them in the dryer? ORRR should i pop them in the dryer only with the DDW dryer sheets? CONFUSING!!!!!!! I also put everything in scentblocker duffle bags after being washed.
BowtechTurkeyHunter
There is a tag on the Scent blocker clothes that says you must activate before wearing ... they recomend you washing your clothes with there carbon wash ... any carbon clothes wash will work ... then the most important thing to ACTIVATE your carbon is to dry it at the hottest temperature you can this activates the carbon to allow it to "capture" the odor mollecules in the carbon itself ... the reason you dry your clothes to activate it is because it "opens" the carbon up and allows the odor to move on. Scent block clothing quits working when the carbon gets filled up with odor mollecules. Only reason you should have to wash your clothes is if you get it muddy/dirty ... odor is not necessarily dirt it just inhibits its effectiveness.
