nemodeerhuntersneighbor
I agree with shockwave. You need to be closer to the bucks bedding areas. Mature bucks don't move much in early season during daylight. They will usually wait till dark to hit the food sources. I experienced this a couple of weeks ago. I shot a 4 yr old at the very end of shooting light as he came out to some beans. I heard him snap a branch off by rubbing it several minutes before he came out into the field. He was staging up in the woods a little ways back before he hit the food source. I would have my stand farther in the woods but I was right on the property line so I couldn't get any closer to the bedding area. So if you know where they are feeding and where they bed you can intersect them. Only this time of year you have to be closer to where they bed rather than feed in most cases. redwing
Baiting: The only thing i can say about baiting is this: Do NOT over-hunt your bait! I would hunt your bait no more than once or twice per week, and when you do hunt it you need to always make sure the wind is right, otherwise you are wasting your time and ruining your spot for the good time of the season. Hunt your bait 1-2 times a week, and hunt other spots the other days of the week. You'll find that when the rut comes, you'll have plenty of bucks in the area, then you can take your pick! Believe me on this one!!!
Guest outdoor_adventurer
i would agree with these guys... hunt deeper in the woods..or try a different location. maybe they are going to a different food source or location. i wouldn't hunt the same spot everyday for weeks on end. i have heard that is bad because the deer will eventually feel the pressure! good luck! hyperflow
What all these guys are saying can't be truer. Where i am deer have played the game and are very smart, My trail cams are lite up with pictures during the day time when we arn;t there. As soon as theres ANY pressure no more daytime walking. Sure you might get younger deer during the day but thats not what i and most ppl are looking for. Find out where they bed and go there early in the morning and try to catch one comming in a bit late. For example i have one spot on my property for some reason i got tones of bucks in there in november, And since july of my trail cam being up i havn;t seen any nice buck in a place i see them all the time later in the fall. Point being try hunting a bed area insted of a feeding if its not working, or Really close to one and try to catch one sneaking out or in. I personaly like to go right in the middle and catch them comming in in the morning.
The Kid
this is just me but i don't use scents or calls till ealry nov. pre rut.. umm try and pattern some bucks,, and if your seeing does that a good thing b/c once nov rolls around the buck will be right behind the does!! Guest madabouthuntin
One thing I would do is try a different location. Big bucks will travel a different trail than the younger bucks or the does will. They will be close enough to see the does mind you, but not always travel with them. Another thing is to find out what they are eating during this time of year in your area. Remember deer will go to different locations depending on what is tasting good to them at that time of the season. You could be really close to where you need to be right now, but a little adjustment might get the results you are looking for. Good Luck!
