I use the cheap $40 20' climbing sticks and bought a Hunters View lock on stand a two years ago for $45.If you shop around you can easily get a set for around $100.

BTDT @ the local Walmart Have one of those set's out in the woods right now;)

Seen some nice Ameristep stands at WallyWorld recently too.

Was at the Local Walmart yesterday and all they have is Ameristep treestands here.

The basic Lock-On model they have is only $49.

They have a 2 person ladder stand for $115.

Rapid Rails for $60.

In the past they used to carry "Rivers Edge" or "Hunters View" stands but there was nothing but Ameristep products yesterday.

I Use An Ol' Man Climber. One Stand That Goes In And Out With You And You Can Go Up Almost Any Size Tree. They Are Not Cheap But If You Want To Hang 3 Or 4 Stands By The Time You Buy Everything You Could Have Bought An Ol' Man. At Least That Is What I Do.

Same here, except I use the summit open shot (14 pounds).

You still need to get the tree ready and clear shooting lanes, but I have no worries about my stand being stolen.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have about 3 or 4 sets of the chain on variety. Walmart always puts them on sale at the end of the season. I think i paid $20 for the stand and $20 for 16' steps. Just remember, these stands are not the biggest and are very uncomfortable unless you doctor them up. I am selling a couple sets right now and going to buy a little bigger and more comfortable stand. Hard to stay in them during the rut because they kill your rear end.

spineshot, Those would be the "Rivers Edge" or "Hunters View" stands....LOL

I've had them and they are not the most comfortable since they include a seat cushion/cover that is just there so they can say they included one...it aint made out of much!

However I have found that with a thermo cushion and a bungee cord that seat is no longer a problem.

A tip for any new lock-on stand...take it out of the box and set it flat on a hard floor.

Lift the seat portion up so you can walk around on the deck portion.

This will eliminate 99% of the "Popping" that you would have heard while your up in a tree and shifting your weight.
