One of my students dad is very racist and will not allow his daughter to even bring a black friend to thier house. But she is currently dating a Mexican, and has dated a Laocian (sp?) and he sees nothing wrong with it.

Think John is right on this popgun. Most around here seem to view the black/white interracial relationship a little differently than an asian or oriental/white interracial relationship or the mexican/white mixed couples that you might sometimes see.

Whether you ignore it or see it for what it really is racism is still very alive and real today. Racism is not just what some view as white people discriminating against blacks or other races either. There is racism against whites whether you accept it or not.

People around here both black and white, I know for certain do talk and say not such nice things about a girl who would get involved with a black man or visa versa. Often times they might even make hurtful remarks loud enough for those people to hear them. It happens. It is cruel and YES I agree it is wrong and I personally would not say anything or teach my children to do so. It is not just white people though, that will make comments or bring on hatred towards those who get involved with someone of another race than their own.

Bring a child into the picture and they often times at least around here will not fit in to either group and will be discriminated against or ridiculed by both whites and blacks. It happens and is very real. We can teach our own children to view these children as no different than any other, but that does not make the fact that there are still people out there who will express hate towards them. Ignoring that this still happens is in my opinion being very naive. For racism to ever end the seperation sought by those who suggest they are discriminated against has to end. It is a shame, but I honestly just dont see that happening in my lifetime.

[/ QUOTE ] Racism is everywhere, but you cannot compare the north and the south. Most of us up north could care less. I very very rarely hear someone say anything about blacks up here. I have never heard anyone say anything about an interracial couple. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the south needs to grow up and stop living in the past. There is nothing wrong with an interracial couple. If you worry about blacks, or interracial couples, your an immature racist and need to get a life. Plain and simple.

Btw. Something that hasn't been said here. Down here the percentage of blacks that are against interracial relationships is just as high if not higher than the number of whites. It truely is a cultural standard for all involved, not just the whites. In my band I've got 7 white girls, 3 have dated black guys. I have 18 black girls, none of them have dated a white guy. I have asked some, and they said they thought it was wrong and they never would. They were raised to belive it was wrong. Not that anyone was better or worse, simply that it was wrong.

I don't personally believe it is wrong, but I was raised to belive it was. Understand it or not, that is what our culture teaches.

But the fact that you do hear them says that racism is there. Things are a little different around the country Jim, not just in the south.

And John is right again at least from how I see it here. Many blacks from what I have seen around here are very against the interracial thing and often times are more cruel and express more hatred than do white people.
