Scent-Lok worth the $

I don't believe they make you 100% scent free(I don't think there is any one thing you can use that will). But they do help to an extent. I don't know anyone who uses them who doesn't still take the scent free showers, use the washes, and some sort of scent eliminating spray, etc. There are tons of things used in hunting now that weren't used years ago...does that make them all a gimmick? No, but I do believe these suit can be used as another tool in helping you bag a deer. Of course you don't HAVE to use them to bag that big buck though. I have had mine for a while now. IMO it is to the point where mine is past its useful life, but back in the first few years, there were times when I certainly would have been busted had I not been wearing it.

im with michiganbowhunter, i do own a set of them, and just bought a set of elematrax gloves and leggens, but they arn't any good if you smell before you put them on, i wash them in scent free soap and into a bag, and before i go hunting i'l take a shower with the scent free soap, to me getting as scent free as possable and than putting them on helps keep your oder some what contained.

I ate chili the other day and had some really bad flatulence, :o I went out hunting, wore my scent lok, and never smelled a thing. :D:D (true story :o:D)

Every little bit helps but, if you play the wind and take other scent control measures you should be ok. However, I am a firm believer that it has helped my more than once fill an empty tag.

Almost all of my clothes is scent-lok and have never had a deer smell me(that I know of:D:D:D)...but I would say that it doesnt really make that big of a difference and next time I probably wont waste my money and go with something cheaper...like others said as long as you take the necessary precautions and wash your clothes in scent free wash and shower with scent free soap you should be fine;)

I own scent - lok clothing and I beleave it helps. Used with a scent free shower and scent away spray in the field you can eliminate most odors. However I have also read that the charcol carbon based clothes only hold so much. They must go in a dryer to re-activate them. I have also read read that the average household dryer can not heat the sent - lok clothes hot enough to reactivate them. After a while all you have is regular camo and not a scent containing outfit. I am not a chemical enginer so I don't know fact from myth. Maybe someone else can let me know if this is valid.

When your carbon gets so full that your dryer can't activate it all you have to do is wash them with a carbon wash this flushes the pores of the carbon out allowing it to be more effective at catching the scent molecules. After you wash dry them as hot as you can even if it means going to a laundromat and spending 2 bucks to use there fryer.

I wash my Scent lok once a year unless its early season and I sweat a lot then I wash them amybe twice a year.

As far as worth the money I think so every little bit helps if you like to hunt and don't always have the luxury of hunting the wind I would definately invest in a set of scent lok clothing. If you have the lucury of hunting the wind all the time then its pretty much a waste of money. Forget the wind just hunt is there motto for a reason.

Good luck

Steve

Though I dont believe in the longevity of the product(as most manufacturers claim)..I Do believe that it probably helps to some degree while it's working.

In any case you cant put a ribbon on a Pig and expect it not to smell...the advice of getting as scent free as possible before using the garments, and not getting all sweaty when using them, has to add more effectiveness to them.

Im not sure if im allowed to say this, But check ebay stuff is really cheap on there.

Im dressed scentblocker from head to toe. Only thing not scent blocker when i go out is my underwear. :D I also use dead down wind product and like it.

Last year in my ohio hunt i saw double the deer all the rest of the guys saw, was it luck or my scentblocker? *shrugz* But any advantege i can put on my side im doing it "if you can afford it why not"

Thanks Bowtech T H. Thats great information. As I originally posted, I own it and beleave it works.

I also agree.

But with that said though if you aren't going to go all out with a full suit and especially the face mask to breath through you might as well save the extra $40 IMO. If you really want to experience the scent reduction benefits that a carbon lined suit offers it is an all or nothing thing. ;)

BTW, I have 4 complete suits along with extra face mask and gloves. Why 4? Well one is a warm weather suit. The other 3 are for cooler temps. Also on the road I don't always have access to a dryer to reactivate them and I really don't care using them for more than 30 hours without reactivating them.

My 2 cents:

I use scent blocker and scentlock. Also use scent free rubber boots.

Do they work?

Perhaps they knock a little scent down.

Enough to keep a deer from smelling you?

No way, not even close (from my experience anyway).

Are they worth the money?

If you have pleanty of cash to spend why not spend it on your passion. I guess it's worth it then.

If you're just getting by like me I'd say no.

My scent reducing stuff generally comes my way as gifts on birthday's or christmas. I put little faith in it and sometimes would rather wear lighter clothes. I do like the underarmour wear. It reduces my sweating (significantly) and less sweat means less odor.

I asked this same question on here a few years ago when it was becoming popular, and someone gave me great advice that I haven't forgotten. Very simple too... Their slogan is "Forget the wind, just hunt."

This person said, "Use it if you want, but never forget the wind ;-)"

I don't have the whole suit, but I have facemasks, hats, and three pairs of gloves. I use them, but I also use Earth Scent Wafers by HS, Scent Killer or Scent-A-Way, wash my clothes in Scent Killer detergent, and take showers with Scent Killer soap.

Something else to consider is Rocky's new Scent IQ clothing. I have and love the baselayers (long johns). Extremely comfortable, and I haven't been sniffed out since I got it.

Good luck!

Ryan
