PineyBrake
What are some opinions on using them and spooking deer? I know I can smell the smoke and it def has an odor, but people say deer cant smell them. I am not sure what to believe. I do know that I would get carried out of my stand by mosquitos if I didnt use one! Thanks!
Guest wtlfrk
Deer can't smell the odor that the Thermacell makes? Now how is that possible?
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I'm sure that sometimes they can smell it. But it has never had any effect on deer I have had come in while using it.
GWSmith
A mat saturated with Allethrin, a copy of a naturally occurring insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/index.asp Personally I dont believe that they do spook deer...not so much that the product mimics a natural substance but that when it's being used the air coming from the unit is heated and rises. sskybnd
i read an artical, that a deers smell is so acute that if you had 100 railroad cars full of jin and than added a cup of vermouth they could smell it, cant remember what parts per million it said they could smell. so i would say they could smell it, but it might not bother them,
ThethirdI
I'm sure that they can smell it, but even if they can it's never caused any problems when I've been hunting. They have never lip curled or anything. If they are smelling it...they aren't linking it to danger.
wtnhunt
Yes they can smell it without any doubt. Have had does come through with the thermacell going and they knew something was not right, but they never spooked.

Tominator
Ask Ohiobucks. He's got some interesting news for you all. I've only used mine a couple times and it appears that they are not affected. I think because the heated vapors go up, and probably disperse before they cool enough to get to ground level.
