dodge4x4
ok, this is mostly for all yall illinois boys out there, but feel free to give advice no matter who ya are. this year in first shotgun season, the rut shuld have been over. well me and my friend were sittin there and this doe come a runnin in and this buck was rite on her butt. he was just a follwin her, tryin to "court" her in a way, and just sniffin her up. what do you think about this? is it normal for them to keep doin that even a lil while after the rut? thanks
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: this is weird Its been my experience that not all of the does will get bred at the same time. Probably natures way of making sure they all DO get bred. You'll also see a second rut that's much smaller than the first one about 28 days later. fisherguy
Re: this is weird yup, the second rut happens everywhere. Usually not very substantial, but any does that didn't get bred the first time go into estrus again about a month later.

MUDRUNNER
Re: this is weird I DON'T THINK THE FIRST RUT WAS QUITE OVER YET.I SAW THE MOST RUTTING ACTIVITY THE WEEK BEFORE SHOTGUN SEASON THIS YEAR,AND I THINK THE RUT WILL RUN A WEEK OR TWO IN EITHER DIRECTION. Rhino
Re: this is weird Some years you'll see what is called a trickle rut. That's when the does come into heat over a much longer period of time than usual. When it happens, sometimes it seems like there really wasn't a defined rut. wtnhunt
Re: this is weird Happens everywhere. A doe will continue to come in until she gets bred whenever that may be.
Tominator
Re: this is weird ohiobucks witnessed some rutting activity a few weeks ago. It looked like a little fawn was coming into estrous for the first time. It happens.
