slugshooter
Well, I got my packet in the mail yesterday and my test date for October 29 to go to Orlando for testing to try and get into the Florida Highway Patrol Academy. I am not too worried about the written portion of the test, just the physical part, but I have started working on it. I have a mini obstacle course in my back yard now. The hardest part for me is going to be the run. You start out with a 220 yard run, then climb over a wall, jump some hurdles, run through pylons, low crawl, drag a 150 pound dummy, then go back through the low crawl, pylons, hurdles, and wall and finish with the 220 yard run. I was looking at some pics of the academy and what goes on. It looks like I am going back into basic training again, only harder, and more fun it looks like. At least it looks like a more relaxed atmosphere with a TV in your room and everything. I looked at the training schedule for one of the past classes. They spend almost two weeks just shooting. .40 caliber Beretta, Remington 870 12 gauge, and the AR-15. Then you get to get into a cruiser and drive like a maniac on the skid pad. Total academy time is 30 weeks, but I would get to come home on the weekends. Hopefully I can pass this test in 3 weeks and be one step closer. As a kid I remember thinking to myself that I wanted to be a State Trooper, maybe it will become a reality, only it took a little longer for me to get there. All I know is, if I make it through training and become a trooper, ya'll better be careful coming to Florida and driving on my highways!! GWSmith
Cool...FL Troopers are decent people and always treated me with respect. I lived in Zephyrhills and drove tractor trailer for Commercial Carrier out of Auburndale, FL. As far as this part goes: "You start out with a 220 yard run, then climb over a wall, jump some hurdles, run through pylons, low crawl, drag a 150 pound dummy, then go back through the low crawl, pylons, hurdles, and wall and finish with the 220 yard run." Think of it like a bear was chasing you...and you owed the Bear money:D

slugshooter
Best of luck to you Marc. Had you gone in the real man's military instead of the ari force, you would REALLY think it was gonna be easy!!! LOL!!!! I have read that Air Force Basic Training is now harder than when I went through it back in 1995. Now, instead of 6 weeks, it is almost 7 weeks, and they get to go camping towards the end. Seriously, whats the point of training AF recruits to go in the field. Unless you are going to try out for Combat Control or Pararescue, you aren't ever going to be without a bed and TV in the Air Force.

slugshooter
Thanks for the support guys. Steve, trust me, if I was single and thought I could take the cold, I would high tail it to Alaska and maybe make a go of it. 4WD and a snowmobile sounds like a pretty good deal.
