RangerClay
I could really use your help. My dad has finally decided it's time for a hearing aid. I'm starting to do a search for him but I have no clue where to start. Can any of you who have hearing aids or have purchased a hearing aid for family member make some recomendations? Brands? Features? What to look for? Thanks! Joe

OJR
Phonak! I have them in both ears and they are great. My hearing is so bad, I have to have the ones that go behind the ears for higher gain. The thing to remember is that hearing aids will amplify ALL sounds and they are terrible when several people are talking at the same time or in public places. I hate the blasted things, but I don't have any choice in wearing them because without them, I can't hear anything! They are very nice in one respect! When my wife starts yelling at me, I just shut them OFF!!! LOL!! She doesn't like that! LOL!!

Tink
New in the ear Digital ones are great but $$$+ I have a set of In the ear that no one can see Digital you can focus hearing by directions IE straight ahead one side etc Also you Can change the program to block out noise from Cafeterias, crowds etc they run test and get profile of your hearing loss and program a hearing aide just for yous loss. They are night & Day Also hearing loss can be stopped by making the ears work again by using a new hearing aide. The more often he wears them the less his loss. There are several brands of them But for older gents like me they let me socialize and date hot younger women! Tink
JJL
Seen the Ear Doc last December. He said I have 70% loss in both ears.........at least that's what I think he said. He recommended hearing aids and told me that they run $59.95 a set................not too bad. WRONG ...............$5995.00 a set. I told him I've heard enough already. johnf
My dad has been using them since the mid 60's, and he's on a pretty tight budget. I'll ask him what he would recommend.

oldblue
I tried the kind that Tink described and they worked great. However, I also got hit with the 59.95 stick in the eye. They quoted me somewhere in the neighborhood of $5000.00 for a pair. They worked great but not that great. Andy

Andy to paying $5,000 or more for a good pair of these things!:( I have gone past the $5K mark a long time ago! All of you "youngsters" had better start to save up for these things because you will need them and they are NOT covered by insurance!
