BowtechTurkeyHunter
I need some ideas on where to go for a Black bear hunt this spring location isn't really a factor I can get just about anywhere I just want a reputable place to hunt bears. I would like an archery hunt but I am not at all apposed to a rifle or Muzzle loader hunt. Any info on anyone that you have used or a friend has used would be great I will do the leg work and follow up. Steve

Guest Colorado Bob
Lower 48---ID without a doubt. Lots of bears & there are different color phase of bears. ID is my choice because isn't the problem with bugs. No black flys or bad swarms of skitters. Canada or Maine you have to wear a bug suit or get eaten alive. Plus it's a 2 bear in most areas. If you want a super size black----Prince of Wales or possibly Alberta. Good luck---CB

And I already thought long and hard about the auction I wish I could swing the money right this second but its just not an option with the timeline I need for finances and all beleive me if this were a month or two later I would be high bidder on that auction just the timing doesnt work out. Sorry I would love to contribute more to Mike. Steve

stevebeilgard
i have a place on prince of wales island in alaska. there are 8' bears taken every year, 7' bears are common, and a 6' bear is considered small. i've also hunted the dworshak dam area in idaho. put a boat in the water just above the dam in orofino, id., travel about 10-20 miles up stream, and you are in heavy bear country. but, the bears are mostly pretty small, about 150 lbs. we trolled the boat for trout (and did well) and saw 6 to 10 bears each day. it was a spring hunt, we set up a nice tent camp, and had fun. i only fished, but my buddy got bears..... Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Plus it's a 2 bear in most areas. Good luck---CB I only see a few units where you are allowed 2 bears. Better get the regulations and check it out.
stevebeilgard
in 1980 or so, i put in a boat in orofino, idaho. we travelled upstream, set up a tent camp, and i trolled for fish with my binoculars close by. my buddy had bear license(s). it was then a 2 bear area. well, we saw 6-8 bears each day, which made for easy kills. fishing was good, and (a spring hunt) morell mushrooms were everywhere. we ate them by the dozens. if you need more help, steve, pm me. fly
Kathleen, I miss a lot of posts and I'm just now seeing this. Wow! what an offer. You're the best! I did a do it yourself bear hunt in Idaho last spring. Tags are easy to get and only 30 bucks each, but timing your hunt with a particular area is critical for a successful hunt. I'm waiting to see how this winter is before deciding for certain for another trip in 09. I'd be happy to pm you with more details if you're interested. >Frank
