coles
saturday morning was the opening day of our waterfowl season. my dad, lil bro, and i were supposed to meet at 6:15 but due to me turning my alarm off instead of hitting snooze i was a lil late. By 9:30 we had only shot 5 ducks between the 3 of us. My dad and lil bro left but 3 of my buddies were hunting down another dike across the highway so i walked down and talked to them for a few mins and took my shotgun. lucky i did because while i was standing there with them we shot 2 teal and 2 snow geese. for some reason there were about 10 or 12 snows that flew over us and we dropped 2. We couldnt believe what we had just shot since the snows usually dont show up at Freezeout WMA until the first part of middle of November. Sunday morning once again i accidentally slept in but I picked my youngest brother up and met my 3 buddies at my parents house. we headed out and set up. Right at shooting time we had a lone goose flyin by and i called him right in. I raised up to shoot and my gun just clicked. My dad and brother had taken it apart the night before and cleaned it for me but didnt put it back together right. Luckily i had my trusty 870 in the truck and i ran and got it. But the goose never got away. Over the next 4 hours we only collected 4 ducks but we had a ball. We all laughed and joked around and had a heck of a time. There just wasnt much flyin and if they were flying it was a mile high and dropping right out into the middle of the lakes at Freezeout. The ducks are already wising up but all in all this weekend was more about memories than bag limits.
RTF
Sounds like a good deal to me. And yes the snow geese are on the move early this year in all flyways. Does that tell you something ?
bluelund79
Fun hunts with friends and family-that is what memories are made of. My crew finished with 2 geese, 2 woodies, and 2 teal this past weekend. Opener sounded like Iraq-had more shot my way this weekend that I did over there it seemed. Just had to move around to get away from the opening weekend warriors....Good luck to all and be safe...Eric
