rad_112176
Well i seen my first mature buck of the season tonight. Had a 140"+ 10 pt 12 yrds from my tree. It was so tempting to take any of the numerous ok shots that i had, but i was waiting for a good shot before i let a arrow go at him. He came in walking directly at me and then left following a tree and its limbs like he knew exactly where to walk. I made a couple bad shots on mature deer last year and i didn't want that feeling again. It is amazing that they can come so close to you and walk away and never present himself for a shot. I felt pretty good that i had the nerves to pay attention to my shot placement and not just trying to stick a arrow in the animal. I am going out again tomorrow and with the cold front coming hopefully he is up and around again.
Flintlock1776
Better luck next time! You may want to consider getting a good ground blind. I use them and it is awesome how close they get and they don't know. Give you that extra leeway of movement to get it set up correctly and reduces the chances of stuff being in the way. shockwave
Kudos for you waiting for the perfect shot, patience is a virtue..And it will payoff in the end..
Guest tmrltree
I must say, I have some respect for you. Most would "force" a shot on an awesome animal, and then are left with an endless blood trail with no harvest in sight, and they may never see that deer again. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit for this buck, and that great shot.

Zambo
You made the right call. There's nothing worse than not recovering a mature buck or any deer you hit with a marginal shot. I also let a mature buck walk this year when he hit my shooting lane at 29 yards but was quartering in on me. After that, your right they seem to find the right path to avoid a second chance to harvest them.
rad_112176
Thanks guys. I don't know about those ground blinds Flintlock. The area where i am hunting is pretty thick and i would have to cut some shooting lanes to be able to see. It also gets dark inside those things so early. LOL. I hunted with my dad in one last year hoping to get a shot on video, plus just to spend some fun time with him, and when we got out of the ground blind when it was too dark to shoot it felt like daylights. I kinda like my tree stands, plus i am usually pretty high up and don't get busted very much. Like i said, i made some shots last year that were not the best shots and my goal this year is to only take a shot that i "know" is a fatal shot. mule659
Good call on not taking the shot...a lot of people would have probably tried it. Way to go on making a good ethical call.
bghunter777
If it were me "off the tree over the rock nothing but buck" just joking with you congrats on showing the self control its hard to let a buck like that walk many hunters would have taken a marginal shot and prob not had good results. lets hope he takes the same route another day and stops about 15 yards broadside. Jorden
Too bad you didnt get him...nice job of waiting for your shot though, if its not there dont take it. ruttinbuc
You did the right thing. True measure of a bowhunter. So many stories of hit and lost deer would not be told if there was more patience at the shot...
