Rayzorp
Saturday was opener for me here in this part of NJ. I decided to hold out and go Monday. Because I hunt alone and I have this fear of black bear, I decided to hit the woods later in the morning and just hang out the rest of the day. I made it to my new spot ( a hill of rocks about 20 yards from what appears to be a very active deer trail). In the afternoon, I hear slight leaf crunching. Right out from the deer trail pop 2 big does, always looking behind them. Right there I thought buck, pull back, hold and wait. A few seconds later, 2 very big black bears come out from behind me, about 10 yards away. I could smell them !! I didn't know what to do. If I were to let the bow down and reach for my spray, I'd most likely startle them, and I hear that's not a good thing. I had no choice but to hold on for a minute or so, finally they moved on. Does were gone,, I thought, take down a deer, field dress then drag it out of the woods, maybe not today, least not around here. Nothing exciting, but I thought it was worth sharing at least for a giggle. Going to try another WMA next week,,
GWSmith
I would have loved to been there and have that happen...specially if there was a Bear Tag in my pocket! I'm sure the Pucker factor was high but that would have been so cool!!! Thanks for sharing that;)
jbeck
I HATE BEARS We have those rotten lousy destructive miserable critters around here. Only problem is they only show up in the yard when it's to dark to actually hunt the things. I have 2 little kids playing in that yard, and I don't want them to have to share it with a meat eating predator.
rad_112176
That would be an interesting time. How many times did you look behind you on the way out. LOL. I had a Cougar walk past my stand last year and i still think of it ever now and then. Ok, on a regular basis. LOL

ruttinbuc
It can be a bit unnerving when they are in close quarters. I have had one experience this year with bears (pics in photo room). I know that I have to retrieve what ever deer I might shoot or stand the chance of losing it to a bear.
