Flintlock1776
Good stuff. For lazy folks like me, I save the hide and ship it to these guys: http://www.wbplace.com/WBPlaceHideTanningHunting.htm I am happy with their work:D
SuperMn106
I liked the article but I am one of the lazy ones. I would like to find a place that would tan it and scrap off all of the excess meat and fat from skinning it. Is there a place like that or do I have to do that myself? RTF
Send it to your local taxidermist. He will take care of it for you. All taxidermists offer tanning service.
hoosierhunter
How much extra should tanning cost? Just wondering b/c I'm paying 60 to have it professionally done and wondered if that's about right.......

Just wondering b/c I'm paying 60 to have it professionally done and wondered if that's about right....... That's cheap. Around $75.00 to $100 is the norm. Guest RuralHallTaxidermy
Just this year I had a customer bring me his buck. Well actually his wife brought it. Seams he had to fly out of town for work. His wife comes in the studio with this buck in a garbage bag. Thats normal. No biggie. Shot it Sat evening, Found it Sunday morning, He takes off to the airport. While at the airport, on his computer he finds something on the web that says to put salt on it. He calls his wife, tells her to get some salt and pour on the deer. Sunday evening she shows up at my studio with this buck -n -a- bag and water pouring out of it. She actually opened the bag and poured about 10 lbs of salt on top of the deer head. On the fur side. I let it hang over night to drain and I managed to save the cape. But she really was complaining about all the blood and water in the back of her expedition!
