Team Realtree
We were talking at work the other day and the subject of rain gear came up (we got a rare 4 inches of rain that day). I have owned Cabelas, Bass Pro, some real off brand cheap stuff, and even have some of the new Team Realtree Diablo gear. As everyone was mentioning brands, the names Columbia, Helly Hansen, and some others came up. My question for you all is what do you wear? Doesn't have to be camo, just curious. Also, even though I have heard of the brand, I've never had any experience with Helly Hansen. Have you guys heard of it or owned it?
Guest Mark_85
I usually use nothing and get soaked but I would love some rain gear. I recently purchased some whitewater dual season bibs and jacket. Waiting to try those out. I've never heard of helly hansen.
GWSmith
I wear a Stearns jacket and pant set that I bought at Walmart. Also have a cheap poncho stashed in the fanny pack. Never heard of Helly Hanson gear:confused:
NiteRunner
What? Hunt in the Rain? Lol I normally just get wet. Rain gear is usually bulky and too big for me, so I skip it. Sometimes I will wear a Walls Camo jacket, but not often.
rookieee
i get wet ,the wife weres all the rain gear:D
Guest bcbaldy24
I think any brand name that utilizes gore-tex is the best..... When I was in the military, the gore-tex gear was better that the rain suit. and obviously warmer too!!! Helly hansen make very good clothing, outerwear for Hiking/climbing..... Would be a very good investment
elkoholic
My rain gear consists of a jacket and bibs made by Remington (or at least has their name on it), although it is not 100% waterproof it works well in anything short of a downpour. Truly waterproof gear, unless I am just sitting still, will cause me to sweat so bad that I end up soaked anyway. I have not found a Gore-tex product that will remain waterproof past a year or so, especially hiking boots that get worn a lot will not repeal water after only a short time. As for Helly Hansen, very popular with the skiers around here even if a little on the pricey side, but I know of nobody who uses their gear for hunting. backwoods07
I wear gore-tex in Realtree hardwoods grey, but I can't remember the brand of my coat. Works great and really isn't that bulky. This of course is when I can convince my hunting partner to get outta bed when it's raining. herriman08
i wear the tech2o stuff from gander. is says it water proof and it sopme what is.
JJL
I doesn't rain enough around here to warrant such items. But if I did have to wear something, you can bet it would be pretty stylish..................
BowtechTurkeyHunter
I have a Columbia rain suit ... Helly Hansen stuff is very nice though I don't own it but I have seen it from reps and such. I mostly wear my Rut Wear for camo water proof and it holds up very well not scent free but I don't worry much about it when its raining I figure what scent there is gets washed away pretty quick and I never have been burned yet in the rain. VermontHunter
Whitewater with " Rain Blocker " it's affordable and works well for me .. ;) Never tried any of the other brands ,, my funds usually prohibit that ... :(
ruttinbuc
I have a 10X Gore-Tex Parka and Bibs that are 12 years old and they still keep out the rain and wind. I have a Shakira(sp) Cloth archers jacket in Gore-Tex that is older yet and still working. I have a pair of Columbia rain pants that holds their own. I recently bought some Cabelas Rain Suede with the Dry Plus membrane. Pretty good and a lot lighter than the other stuff. Helly Hansen makes some nice stuff for marine and fishing applications. I have a pair of bibs by them, but they are the heavy rubber kind. Well made though.

unioncountyslayer
For hunting I wear standard issue military gore-tex. It works great and you can buy it pretty cheap at an Army Surplus store. For work and everyday rainy weather I wear The North Face gore-tex. It's light and repels rain with the best of them. Plus, you can zip in different weight fleece liner jackets when it gets colder. I sure wish they had a camo line. And I have a couple HH jackets, although not in gore-tex, but it is very high quality stuff.
Turkeygirl
I have a Cabela's Gortex Pac-lite or whatever it is called rain jacket for hiking...then I found a Mountain Hardwear rain jacket at a thrift store and that is one awesome rain jacket...although it typically runs over $100 (I got it for $5 at the thrift store). I have a cheap RT camo poncho, one of the Walmart deals, but the snaps broke on that....for the most part I use rain gear if hiking or turkey hunting...if it's a down pour during deer season, I'm usually inside

Leo
West Marine's Third Reef Foul Weather Jacket and Bibs! Not camo but if you are in a boat in cold rainy weather, this stuff will keep you warm and dry. It has velcro double cuffs a rain hood and pockets that stay dry.
