nativetexan
If you any of you guys aren't keeping up with the X-prize competition, you should check it out. Here is one of the vehicles I would buy in a heartbeat. Just because it looks like a blast... http://flytheroad.com/ http://xprizecars.com/ http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/

nativetexan
Actually, you aren't winning a car. It's a competition for teams of people to develop a 100 mpg+ vehicle, which is able to be mass produced, with a prize of $10 million to the team that is judged the winner. Honestly, I think its a great idea and I commend people for using their brains for solutions to problems instead of sitting on their duff's waiting for Uncle Sam to make it all better. Irregardless of the fact that it, or any other vehicle for that matter, may be a POS to some.
stevebeilgard
sorry, i didn't see what the competition was. i just like big vehicles. it is quite a prize, though. and i do hope someone can develop a car that does that 100 mpg thing or more. i heard that chevy was putting out a full size 1/2 ton with a small version of the duramax, that gets 32 mpg. now that i'm really interested in. the cars i saw looked like the old isetta (gotta go back to the '60's), a death trap for 2. nativetexan
Agreed. No doubt the one I mentioned above is certainly a death trap here in the U.S. Even though it looks like a blast to drive. I have read up on some of the other large vehicles also boasting high mileage and am interested in seeing what they come up with.
GWSmith
It is interesting...I remember the Scaled Composites SpaceShipOne's accomplishments in the Ansari X Prize. I refuse to believe that it cant be done with a land based vehicle that gets fantastic feul mileage. Getting people accustomed to not having the creature comforts thier used to so it can be accomplished is another battle all together;)

stevebeilgard
LOL That's funny Steve!!! I agree with you bud! :D if i were in a small town or big city with just a few blocks to drive, and no place to park, those little cars would be fine. but i have a backhoe i need to tote at times.... in the service i had a motorcycle. buddy got hurt on his and i sold mine. i don't think cycles are for me either, yet they do get good mileage and are fun to drive. and about as safe as those little cars... it's just no worth it in the end, to me...
