Grady269
I have switched back and forth between using 150 and 100 grains of powder and it seems that I get far better results accuracy wise with 100 than with 150. I shoot an Encore with Barnes Expander MZ's and it will cloverleaf @ 100 yds with 100 grains but the groups open up @ 150 grains of pyrodex. Does anyone else have any experience along this line, 150 grains sounds better but just does not seem to produce the same results.
wtnhunt
Shoot loose powder here and the best results we got were with 120 grains pyrodex rs. Groups opened up a bit with more powder than that.
okiedog
I tried 150 grains and my gun did not group well. My groups were alot better with 100gr. I've got a box of 30 grain pellets and I'am going to try some different loads this year 110, 120, 130.
Guest akmike30
I had then same problem getting groups with anything over 100 grains. I have stuck with 100 grains of triple 7 in pellets very happy with that all shoots up to a 100 have been with in 4 to 5 inches. Have very good luck with with hordany and barnes bullets. thats my two since
elnor
100gr of Triple Seven works well for me in my Hawken. Same but in pellets suits my wife's Genesis, too.

whttlbucksteve
You guys are knowledgeable what is theleast amountof powder I could use formy daughter to harvest a deer.
Grady269
check regs I would recommend start be checking the regs of the state you hunt in, my state requires a minimum of 50 grains. I think 80 grains of loose Pyrodex would be ample, we loaded a knight wolverine with that load for a friends son who is 11 and it was fine. wtnhunt
You guys are knowledgeable what is theleast amountof powder I could use formy daughter to harvest a deer. I downcharged with pyrodex down to 85 grains in my tc black diamond for my then 8 year old daughter to practice. She handled it just fine and the rifle grouped fairly well for her with that load. Indy-Travis
Back when we were getting my nephew into deer hunting, I tested the waters with some lighter loads. Harvested a doe very cleanly with 70gr. blackpowder and a 240 gr. hornady. It isn't "devestating", more like punching a hole, but the track job easy and short. I did shoot some 50 and 60 grain loads, but with the light bullet, could percieve no difference in recoil between 50 and 70.
GWSmith
I started at 80 grains and went all the way up to 150grains..5 grains at a time! I found my rifle likes 90grains with the bullet/sabot combo I'm using...and the recoil is next to nothing @ 90;)
