buckee
Hi ALL, Quiet day for the boys today. Jordan didn't kill anything. On their way in to the hunting spot this morning they did spy a very nice buck and doe though and Mike got out of the truck to do a sneak. The pair were keeping well ahead of him and he couldn't catch up... This afternoon Steve left for what he thought would be a leisurely hike up the side of a hill. Turned out he walked up and up and up the side of a mountain and when he looked back he could see the entire farm he started from. He figures it was a good 2 miles away! That tuckered him out a bit so he had a little snooze up there and then followed a number of ridges until it got just a little too steep for comfort and followed a deer trail back down. They are now enjoying a home cooked meal and some of my wild apple pie! Lots of moose sign still and Steve is hoping to relieve that itch in his trigger finger tomorrow. Talk to you then:) Diana
GWSmith
.......and some of my wild apple pie! "Lady D"....That's just not fair:D:D:D I got a fresh cup of Coffee that would be great with a slice of that right aboot now;) I think I was on the phone with Steve when he went out and picked them apples too! Thanks for the update...we'll have to pick on Steve about taking naps though...LOL
buckee
It wasn't easy picking those apples! We found an old old townsite (just a couple of foundations left to mark the spot) and everything was so overgrown we had climb over and under tonnes of broome and brush to actually get to the tree. When we got there we realized (from the smell mostly) that a bear or two were bedding down there regularly. The 24 huge bear droppings on the way in kinda gave it away too. I don't know what type of apples these are but they sure are tasty.I'm saving some for the freezer so anytime you're up this way.....the coffee is always hot! Leo
Steve is hoping to relieve that itch in his trigger finger tomorrow. Sounds like it's turning into a real itchy finger too! He better keep it out of his nose or the itch will get worse and spread This hunt is known as Buckee's Moose hunt here on Realtree but I strongly suspect around there it will be called "Jordan's Hunt". Is Jordan now OOT? (Out Of Tags)
buckee
I'm not sure. He did bag another buck here on the island before they left but I think they're allowed 3 province wide. The moose tag allows 2 moose in total for the group of 4.(Mike isn't actually hunting) I don't know if the same person can shoot both moose.(mooses? mice?) ruttinbuc
Great job on these reports Diana...Hope they get to fill some of those tags you were right..the plural of moose is moose
buckee
Today the adventure started early while they were unloading the truck at their moose hunting spot. A coyote ran in front of the truck, stopped, ran to the side of the road and stopped again. Mike (who I learned is actually hunting-just not moose) got a shot off on the coyote but missed. It ran back across the front of the truck again and took off, safe for another day. Later Steve heard more coyotes yipping across a meadow but didn't get to see them. He did find another shed though. This one is from what he believes was originally a 5pt mulie but 1 of the points was chewed off by squirrels or some other critter out there. He also had another long hike around 2 watering holes and down to a lake with swans and ducks swimming about. So no mulies, no moose today either but Steve cooked up some succulent moose backstrap steaks over a wood fire and everyone is all settled in for the night. We'll see what tomorrow brings.Diana

buckee
Hello my good friends, I'm sorry it took me so long to get in here and update you with pictures. As most of you know, we got back late Saturday night from our trip. I've been trying to play catch-up on a few things along with getting some sleep. It took a bit out of me. It sure was beautiful country, and although the game made themselves scarce there was plenty of moose and Muley sign everywhere. Diana sure did a great job on the updates, and I'm very thankful. Diana wanted to thank everyone too, for all the encouragement and making her feel welcome to the forums. She's actually taking more of an interest in hunting. I'm still waiting to get some more pictures from my friend Steve's brother, Mike, who took a lot more pics than I did. My camera doesn't seem to take great pictures, for some reason. Like Diana said, on the way to camp we stopped at a place called H,ell's Gate and did the tourist thing for 1/2 hour or so ... Great way to view the mighty Fraser river. I loved this old woodstove on display at H,ell's Gate, because it reminded me of my Grandma's stove. There are some sun-rises that can't be beat for their beauty. I wish I could have gotten out of the truck for a better photo. Now lets see what great moose country looks like. It sure was awesome, with moose sign everywhere. Dusting of snow Looking down on the farm I started in from, while hunting for Mulies. Once I got up there, I decided to follow the ridges back out, instead of the trail. This is the first thing I saw while approaching the gang after Jordan shot his moose.. Here's Jordan's big moose. The thing was a monster for sure. Our flat tire trying to get to the moose. The gang (or should I say, "MotleyCrew") We weren't ashamed to display the rack on the way home either. The only reason I went on this trip was because we all put in for a moose draw, like usual every year, but this was the first year we actually got it, and with 5 of us in the same truck, it made it quite affordable. I sure wish I could have gotten at least a picture of that black wolf.
