layin on the smackdown Posted October 19, 2008 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 start with small sequences...tickle the antlers a little and see what you stir up..If you have a high buck to doe ratio, you should get some type of response...I wouldn't go all out yet, but definitely do a little ticklin with a few small not too loud smacks...good luck! Saw some light sparring here on our opening morning a couple weeks ago so I would say it is probably not too early for light tickling, but would not bang the bones together in any serious fighting sequences just yet. Once they break up and start their territorial routine, buck battles and tinking tines get their attention. Way down in South Texas, roughly a week ago, I watched a couple of young 8 pointers trade tine. Their noise brought in a 10,9 and one more 8. These South Texas bucks don't start the rut till mid December but......they are trading pokes now. Up North in your neck of the woods I'm sure they are well primed for rattling now.
