outdoorsmen1
I shot this 8pointer this afternoon, i shot it at about 7:05 and backed out and came back around 7 45, and we found my arrow broke off, probaly around 15-16inches are still in the deer. We had good blood, then GREAT blood, and then it got thin and stayed thin for about a good 100 yards at least, and the last drop was really light red. Is that a good or bad sign? The deer probaly ran about 300 yards, im gonna go out in the morning and check around, all i can do is hope..lemme get some advice from the pros
JJL
It all depends on where and what you hit......... Not being there I can't give you opinion. But if you had that much blood you probably hit something major and will find him in the daylight. Blood trails will tend to get thin as the skin closes over the entrance and exit holes and the blood starts to clot. You did good by backing out, If you hit vitals he'll be close by. I agree with the above. Good luck in your search tomorrow. Be sure to post some pics!!
Shaun_300
Ditto on the above, I've seen that happen before and part of the insides will plug the holes too causing a poor bloodtrail even though the deer was hit good. Good luck getting him tomorrow!

Eddie234
I'd say you should be able to find him in the morning, probably bleeding internally.
The Kid
did you have any luck finding your buck?
EKYhunter
You received excellent advice, when in doubt, back out. Did you find the buck?
outdoorsmen1
Well thanks fellas for the advice and everything, but im gonna have to give yhall the sad face:confused: on this one, we walked 300-400 yards around from where we had the last drop of blood, and NOTHING. no more blood or anything. Im really downed because that was not only my biggest bow buck, but def. the biggest buck i wouldve gotten. Now im hoping to at least find the buzzards over him and get the antlers, cause i know for a fact hes gotta be dead somewhere. thanks guys
rad_112176
Sorry to hear that outdoorsmen1. I had a rough year last year and know exactly what you are going through. Keep your head up and don't let this discourage you too much.
backwoods07
sorry to hear. I shot a 130+" 9 point last weekend and couldn't recover. Where do you think you hit him??
outdoorsmen1
Im pretty sure i hit him low in the shoulder, there was about 12 inches of my arrow that is still in him. The thing is that his blood trail would get really thick, then thin out, then thick, then thin. It did that for about 200 yards before it eventually stopped. They sure are some tough animals.
