Buck~Nasty
I just ordered a box of these from cabela's. I don't understand this part. "This muzzle-loading sabot contains a 265 grain .44 caliber, jacketed flat-point Interlock bullet." What does the 44 caliber mean? Did I order the wrong sabot and bullet's? wtnhunt
The actual bullet caliber is .44. The sabot makes up the difference. I shoot the 240 grain xtp mags from my .50 cal black diamond and they have been effective.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Buck these are actually pistol bullets. You can get the xtps in either 44 cal or 45 cal. What is a little confusing is that there are no actual 44 cal bullets the actual cal of the 44s is .429 and possibly .430 so the 44 mag is not a 44 cal but a mere 43 cal. The 45 cal bullets are a true 45 cal. I assume what you bought were 44 cal bullets with a 54 cal sabot designed to use a 44 cal bullet. PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Don't feel bad about being confused. The 38 Special is not a 38 cal it is a 35 cal and the old 38-40 is actually a 40 caliber. Not even muzzleloaders are really precise in calibers. I have a traditions that is very very tight, I mean pound it down the barrel tight and it is supposed to be a 50 cal. Methinks it is closer to a 49 caliber. I truly believe that there is a company wide standard of bore sizes but no industry wide standard like in modern firearms.
