Federal Land vs. States Rights

I could very well be wrong here, but a National Forest is not the same as a National Park or Federal Owned Property.

I know several people who own land in a National Forest and their land is still private and cannot be accessed without their permission. These owners pay real estate taxes on their property.

Federal land, like military bases, or national parks, like Yellowstone are restricted.

But then again, the entire city of Hot Springs AR is a National Park and the Government does not own it, maintain it, or police it.

Just because a State has a lot of National Forest acreage does not mean there is a lot of public hunting ground.

I would also like to see more tags for elk, muleys, etc. go to us but I think most are grabbed up by big outfiters like USO.

In AR there is no draw for deer tags even for non-resident hunters. You can buy your license and hunt. But if I want to hunt in IL, I must be drawn for a deer tag. I'm still waiting to get drawn. .....popgun

Re: Federal Land vs. States Rights

Okay, I'll concede that the people I know are surrounded by National Forest. My map does not differentiate the small plots that are surrounded. I guess I need a more precise map.

You can come down here and buy your license over- the-counter and hunt deer any way you want. I'll even lead you to some good spots.

My shoulders aren't strong enough for the compound anymore, and I can't qualify for the crossbow permit, so I am trying for muzzeloader tags in IL.

I must admit that I don't like the IL system much. Buy non-resident license, apply for tags, pay fees, and when rejected wait for refund of fees paid.

Too complicated, and too much trouble.

Too much money tied up for months waiting for a refund.

After my son and I make this one out of state hunt, I doubt we will ever do something like this again. Lucky for us that our outfitter is willing to carry us over until we get drawn. .....popgun
