Rem308
That is a great buck and I can see why you'd be in shock! Good deal, learned something new with this one.
Guest CSRoth
i like the way this guy thinks,, did you ever notice the mane after you shot the deer??? That is a heck of a deer! Congrats to you...you can always go back and check your "in the field" photos and see if it had the mane in the pics.... Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any "in the field" pics. The only pics I have are the ones that I took with him after he was home and gutted, and in those pics, he's always facing with his neck towards me at an angle in which you couldn't see the mane. I'll try to take some pics of the stitching when Todd gets home to help me out.
Randy
We had a young doe a few years back that had a mane, I couldn't bring myself to shoot her that year and although I saw her plenty of times that year, I never saw her again the following year. Her mane looked just like your deer, just a bit thinner. Congrats on a great buck, it's one to be proud of for sure!
Guest lschmitt
Michigan 7-point buck with mane Would like to comment that whitetails with manes are out there. My friend just took a Michigan 7-point buck with a mane and thinking about getting a shoulder mount. My taxidermist says they see maybe one a year. HUNTINGMAN
My first thought was the taxidermist messed it up,but after seeing the pics of the doe with a mane I find it interesting.I would have never dreamed a deer could have a mane, nice buck by the way. hyperflow
I must be spoiled. Here we got a amazing taxidermist, all the other mounts i look at look like road kill to me. I go to basspro shops and stuff and i find they look horribal. Beautiful deer
HOYTnMUZZYboy
It's funny I ran across this post. I just dropped my buck from lastyear off at the taxi as it had a mane after about 8 months hangin on the wall. I took it back to him and he is correcting it right now. Must of gotten him sewn up a lil to tight. He was real nice and is putting other mounts aside to make it right. Can't ask for anymore then that. Dakota
What? You never seen what the young bucks are wearing these days? It's called a mohawk! :D:D
Zambo
Great buck, congratulations on a great trophy. I have to ask though, did you or anyone including the taxidermist notice the mane after you killed him? It seems to me with a mane that pronounced someone would have seen it. I usually spend a few hours admiring a buck I shot. Again that's a great buck anywhere. He's one to be proud of.
Guest CSRoth
Here is some pictures of the stitching on the back to show there was no mess up of bad stitching. Was going to post them a while ago but just lost track of time.To be honest never looked for a mane because never knew deer had them, and all the pictures we took were frontal views.Chris had shot this deer in the evening and we did not get it out of the woods till way after dark we come home hung it up the next morning we all get up go hunting come in take her buck down take pictures and take it to the butchers. Then we took the deer to the taxidermist which is a friend of mine. I went down months later to see what the progress of her deer was and he told me it had a mane at first i thought he was joking and then he showed me and said it was very rare. We came home and did some research on deer with manes, they say 1% to 2% of deer have manes. After seeing this we got out our video camera that we had taken video of the deer in our back yard on and see that we have a doe on video with a mane. Here are the pictures of her stitching. Todd As you can see, the stitching is at least a half an inch (probably more) from the mane itself.
