Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Has anyone ever taken this type of test for GM? or any other test like it? Back in 2006 I went and put in an application for it and sat in a little meeting about it. I had pretty much given up hope on it..until today. The guy called and asked for my birth date, and told me I should be hearing from him around the end of November and the testing will probably be going on around January. Since it was so long ago, I forgot what I did with all the paper work I had from the meeting, which included the names of a few books I could use to study. I called my dad and he is going to talk to a few of the skill trades guys at work and see if they have any recommendations. Do any of you have any suggestions? I'm not 100% sure I will called to take the test, but I want to be prepared if I am.
Shaun_300
What's this apprenticeship test for? To be a GM Technician at a dealership or something? I know when I started with GM I had to take a test to be able to start my apprenticeship, it was like an aptitude test with math, a bit of english, and other brain picking questions. Let me know what the test is for and maybe I can help you out
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I guess I should have mentioned what it is for. It is a skilled trades apprenticeship test. If I do well there is a chance I could be put into the program to learn one of the trades to work in one of the area factories.
stevebeilgard
go and do it. you don't have to accept any jobs, but it will enhance your resume to take/pass the test
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Oh I am definitely taking it IF they call. and if I do well and get an offer for it the apprenticeship you can bet I'll jump on it!
Michihunter
It's been 25 years since I took it but from what I recall, it was tough. I remember thinking that I was way out of my league coming from high school(where I graduated with a 3.86 gpa) and seeing all these college grads. Obviously I was correct because I never got a return call saying I was hired. I wish I could remember the details of what was on that test but it's been too long. Nick
Wow.....I cant beleive GM is even looking for trades people. I know a guy who has over 20 years in GM as an electrician and has been laid off for 2 years. But good luck if you get the chance.......Thats an awesome opportunity. craig mack
Good luck!!! Like Nick said though, I'm surprised that they're looking for people. I work for Chrysler and I know quite a few trades people who are laid off. They will keep you on as an apprentice but once you get to journeyman status they will lay you off because they only have to have so many journeyman per apprentice. I will see if I can find out what the ratio is.
