Chrud
Re: Jeff Gordon He'll never get 7 titles. He can have 100 wins, but I still like my stat comparision. Back in Petty's day, it was 40 or 50 races a year and no competition. In Earnhardt's day and now today, it's only been 30-36 races a year and great competition. Gordon is good, but I don't think he is or will be as good as Earnhardt Sr.
slugshooter
Re: Jeff Gordon Chrud, you know I love ya man and I have always been the first to acknowledge that Dale Sr. was awesome behind the wheel and did things that nobody else would have the cajones to do in a car, all this and rooting against him, but I gotta burst your bubble, Jeff will surpass him in wins, thats a no brainer, Jeff would have had his 5th Cup had it not been for this Chase business, but, I believe Jeff will surpass him in that respect also, think about it, he's 31 years old man, he's got another 20 years to get 3 or 4 titles, if you go by how long these guys usually race for, I mean, Sr. was 49 when he died, almost 50 and probably would have retired after the 2002 season, I think Jeff will surpass him, hands down. Chrud
Re: Jeff Gordon [ QUOTE ] he's 31 years old man, he's got another 20 years to get 3 or 4 titles [/ QUOTE ] But, would you agree with me that after 1996 or 1997 that Dale Sr was "past his prime"? I'm not saying he was washed up, but I think he was getting real close to the end of his career. Jeff may have 15-20 years left, but how many of those will be as productive as they are now? He might only have 7 or 8 more years that will be as good as he is now. Look at Richard Petty. He won his 200th race and raced a LONG time after that without winning, or really being competitive at all. I do agree that Jeff will get more wins, but I think he'll get 6 championships and that'll be that. He'll get them both by 2010. That would put him at 36 or 37 years old. He'll be a fixture in the Chase, but you can only go on as competitive as he has for so long. Just a quick stat prediction from me, since I've done it a few times in this post. Dale Jr's final career Cup stats...58 wins and 3 NEXTEL Cup Championships.

Steven
Re: Jeff Gordon Everybody knows Jeff Gordon and his fans are gay because he drives a colorful car and he speaks English well. Of course I'm joking, just making fun of people who make fun of him because of his old paint scheme.

Chrud
Re: Jeff Gordon Then again, in Senior's last full season, he finished 2nd in points. I think Gordon will get 6 but not 7. Jimmie should be a good lock for 3 or 4 titles himself too.

Chrud
Re: Jeff Gordon Just assume Jeff Gordon doesn't have "all the luck he can get." Ok.... He hits the wall at Daytona, causes the big one, takes out everyone but Junior, Truex, Waltrip and Harvick. Now, at every race, including the All-Star at Charlotte, he hits the wall again and again, taking out Jimmie Johnson each time. Now, don't you hope Jeff Gordon has some luck. Ironranger
Re: Jeff Gordon Why would you joke about anyone hitting the wall at Daytona after Dale's accident?? I wouldn't wish that on any driver or even joke about it. Then again, I'm probably being a cranky old F@rt as it's been one of those morning but just something to think about... spyderpancake
Re: Jeff Gordon I do not think that Gordon will ever beat the 7 championship record. I have this from a reliable source(my brain). He will most likely win 5, maybe get 6, most likely not get 7, and definitely not get 8. It took him 12 years to get the 4 he has, and the competition gets better every year. Also, I don't think he would have won the championship under the old system. Jimmie Johnson would be the 2004 Champion. They would have raced differently and run more conservative engines; last year they eperimented with the engines when he went on the dnf streak right before the chase started. They were gonna take away his big points lead anyway, so they gambled on some setups. So the points under the old system that you see would have most likely been a lot different if they were actually using that system. But i can promise you one thing, Kurt Busch would not be our Champion
Chrud
Re: Jeff Gordon The Chase is pretty good...IF someone deserving wins. Kurt Busch didn't deserve it.
VermontHunter
Re: Jeff Gordon Forget the what if's, and should of's, if you use the points that they had at the end and then use the old point system, Jeff under the old point system would be the Nascar Champion, but with that said you are right the competion is far better and more consistant than years ago... But do not under estimate what Jeff Gordon can do with a crappy car, he has proved it over and over again that he can take a piece of crap and communicate whats wrong to his team and correct the problem and come from behind to win, driver to driver he can compete with any of them... spyderpancake
Re: Jeff Gordon [ QUOTE ] Forget the what if's, and should of's, [/ QUOTE ] that's exactly what i was saying! Don't say Jeff Gordon would have won the championship IF it had been under the old system. If it were under the old system, everyone would have had a different amount of points at the end of the year.

[/ QUOTE ] Testy.Testy..arent we....Johnson would not have won the championship over Gordon...it wasn't becuase Johnson was testing new engine designs....Jeff and Jimmie were both testing a new transmission configuration, and Jeff just happened to have better luck with the new design that Jimmie did... When you boil it all down both teams run Identical cars except for setups, but as for the mechanical parts in the cars they both use the same identical parts...this info is obtained on Hendricks site if you care to take a look...but your right everyone would have different points in the end becuase instead of 10 cars running for point all the cars now become a big factor in running hard.....the second year of this new point system and new track rules for certian tracks should make for a very interesting year of racing....and I still say team Hendrick is going to be a dominate force to contend with after the great season they had last year, and the Daytona Testing shows this to be a strong team this year as far as testing goes. But we'll have to see testing and actual racing conditions are two different animals.. Just wanted to add a little snipit from Nascar with the whole link if you are interested in it.... http://www.nascar.com/2004/news/headlines/cup/08/15/jjohnson_dnf/index.html Jimmie Johnson could have clinched a spot in the Chase for the Nextel Cup with a good finish in Sunday's Sirius at the Glen at Watkins Glen International. So much for that. For the second race in a row, Johnson's day ended early with his No. 48 Chevrolet in the team's transporter with a broken engine. This time, Johnson blamed himself, saying he broke the transmission with a missed shift, which overreved and blew the engine. Johnson also broke an engine last week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What was a 232-point lead two weeks ago is down to 40. And the only reason Johnson held on to the top spot was because second-place Jeff Gordon had transmission troubles, too. "It's a terrible deal," Johnson said. "I have nowhere to look but in the mirror and made my own mistake. Broke the tranny and ended up breaking the engine." Suddenly, one of the most vocal critics of NASCAR's new system of determining the champion may be one of its biggest benefactors. Only the top 10 advance to the Chase for the Nextel Cup, so where Johnson stands in the points right now doesn't really matter. "I've been the slowest one to conform to this new points system and to see the positives in it," Johnson said. "But days like today, you have that cushion to fall back on." Still, Johnson knows the days of experimenting are over. Johnson's Hendrick Motorsports team used a new type of transmission in Sunday's road course race, but it may have backfired. "When we've been up on top of the pile, we've been able to do that," Johnson said. "With four more to go, we'll probably go back to more conventional stuff. "We just got into a few weeks of where we were trying some stuff that didn't work." But Johnson remains confident. He and crew chief Chad Knaus shared a smile and a handshake as the car was loaded on to the team's hauler, perhaps signaling better things to come. "We'll do what we can and make sure that we get things cleaned up and in order for that final 10," Johnson said. "This team has all the potential in the world. We had a little bit of bad luck, and today the driver made a mistake. "We'll come to Michigan and come out with our normal style and have a great race." spyderpancake
Re: Jeff Gordon You callin' me testy? I AM NOT TESTY! If there is anything in the world that i am not, it is testy. I don't know where in the world you get this stuff, you can see from any of my posts that i am probably like the ultimate least testy person on this site. lol just messin with you. IMHO Johnson would have won it, but who knows. Hey, at least I'm admitting that one of your beloved Hendrick's drivers would have won it, instead of that jerk Kurt.
