MNcrittergittr
Hi there. I live in northern Minnesota and have a question for the pro staffers and anyone else "in the biz" that may be able to offer an answer. I spend as much time in the woods and on the water as humanly possible. Like so many other hunters I eat, sleep, and breathe the outdoors! I spend hundreds of hours a year in the trees hunting whitetails, and each year without fail I see and have magnificent encounters with world class deer. We run into monsters every year, from 140-160 or better class 8's and 10's and even deer that would give 200 a good run 17+ pointers. With this in mind, why is it that we don't see pro staffers and shows being produced and filmed in Minnesota all that much? We see a couple every now and then I know that certain states have proven time and time again to produce beautiful, trophy deer and lots of them (we all know what states I'm refering to, I don't even need to name them). Is it because of the land? Is it difficult to aquire quality private land? Does it have something to do with management? It definitely can get crazy on public property during the firearms season, but there are so many hot spots around the state. It can be like hunting Canada and Iowa at the same time in certain places. I'm not trying to take anything away from other states at all, how could I?! I dream of hunting places like Saskatchewan, Illinois, Kansas. I'm just simply curious. It seems like 9 times out of ten that I read an article or watch a show it's from Illinois or Kansas, Iowoa etc. I know those states are golden grounds like I said. But with Minnesota having one of the largest deer populations in the country, I was just wondering. I am by no means a pro, just a guy who bowhunts a lot. Well I didn't mean to write a novel, just a question. Anyway, thank you and good luck to everyone out there this fall!
stevebeilgard
most of the time the shows are filmed at spots where the film crew is invited. let's face it, a good show is the best advertising that money can buy. that's also why you generally see the star getting a huge buck. most outfitters want the hunter to get the biggest, as that is what he will write about or show on t.v. so, outfitters write to shows and outdoor writers often, with hunt invites. most get an offer a week. i'll bet waddell gets 2 each day. Tim Andrus
yep what Steve said! Also, they have to look at the chance of success for a quality buck. in a few days on film And theres the cost of travel, cameraman pay and so on. Now Ive hunted in south east Minnesota and they have some great deer . So maybe youll be surprised to see a show there someday hope that helps Tim

GWSmith
I'm not a prostaffer(but I dream of being one on TV) I'm wondering if you've ever watched "Driven TV with Pat and Nichole"??? I know I have a couple of thier shows recorded on the DVR and I know that on some of their shows recently they have taken really nice Bucks in Minnesota. Purely for research purposes of course....I'll have to watch them over again today...LOL I'll try to get the Outfitters name for you;) Here you go: http://www.driventvwithpatandnicole.com/default_home.aspx http://www.mnfairchaseoutfitters.com/
Guest Brutal
They need to have something like they had last night on VS country in WI held in MN! I am from MN also but I just assume that the majority of outfitters on TV have 1k + acres, highly managed area's, pretty much guaranteed your pick of a few bucks out of the 500 they have on trailcams, and some good food plots to mature the deers rack to its fullest potential. Here in MN it is hard enough trying to find decent 200 acre lots let alone 1k. Back to that deal that I had DVR'd other day on VS Country. It was called Whitetail Challenge. They had 4 prostaffers. Told them they had to earn a buck and first day they had to shoot a doe. The first one to get a doe back to the meeting place had the first pick out of the 4 area's they could hunt. 2nd could pick the 2nd area, 3rd 3rd, 4th was stuck with last. It was only a 3 day hunt so had a tough time limit. 2 out of the 4 ended up with a buck and another missed a monster buck. Probably the most entertaining hunting show I have watched lately on VS or ODL.
