Strut10
The first little smidgen of 2008 red raspberry siphoned off the top. This was my first taste of my first-ever attempt at wine making (actually I gave the Mrs. the honors of "first slurp" ). I am soooooooo very pleased with what I've come up with!! This stuff is gooo-ood!! At least I think so. I'm actually jumping the gun by a week or two in sneaking a taste today. Should get better with time. But it's just danged fine sippin' as-is right now. Bit of a kick, too, I might add. Can't believe how brainlessly easy it is to come up with stuff so good. Now I can't wait for some of the other recipes down in the cellar to mature a bit. Ambuscher
I've made one batch myself. Made it out of strawberries from the garden. Mine to had quite a bite to it also. I have one bottle left that I am planning on having in about 4 more years. At that time it'll be 10 years old. Now, since you brought this up I'll have to hide it a little bit better. You know how hard it is to wait. LOL
Strut10
It is VERY hard to wait. Now, knowing that the product is quite good, it's even harder to wait. I just recieved the recipe I'm using this past summer. I did one batch (gallon to a batch) of the red raspberry. When I saw how simple and inexpensive it was to do.......I did a coupl more gallons. Then the blackberry crop was bumper. So I did a few gallons of that. Elderberries were everywhere!! So I did 7 gallons of that. Did a batch of strawberry...........a batch of blueberry and 3 batches of yellow pear tomato (if this stuff turns out like I think it might...........hoo boy!!). If it all works out as well as the red raspberry, I'll either have booze to peddle or I'll be happy all the time. So now I sit and I wait. Even though the initial tasting of the raspberry was excellent.......it's still very young. Still has a slight taste of yeastiness remaining. A few more months oughta take care of that. Strut10
now that does look good. congratulations on a quality wine Thanks for the kind words. I actually should have taken the photo over a white backdrop to accurately show the color. The wooden table gives it way more of a carmel colored look than the red that it really is. Strut10
Was it sweet, semi sweet, dry, full.?? Bravo on your first... It is quite sweet. The recipe uses a good bit of sugar (which also accounts for the stout alcohol %) making it a very sweet, fruity wine. Thanks for the kind words. JJL
Job well done Don! I have a good friend in Illinois who creates a concoction from Tomato's that'll knock your socks off. With both taste and content. It's very light peach in color and has the smoothest most gentle flavor. Definately just for sipping though, He handed me my first glass of it after 6 or so beers and soon I was in my "happy place"........... Texan_Til_I_Die
Wow that looks good. I've developed a taste over the last few years for the Texas wines. I've been wanting to try making some myself, but I'm just so stinking busy that I don't know if I'd ever really find the time.

Aside from the actual berry picking.........each gallon requires about 15-20 minutes of labor. That's it.

RangerClay
Congratulations!!! You are now an official winemaker! Soon your cellar will look like mine. I've been making wine for about 6 years now. Be careful.... this hobby is terribly addictive! You are correct, let that wine sit for about 6 months and it will be awesome. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and if you ever have any winemaking questions just shoot me a PM.
MCH
That looks like my spare room.:D Not as much in to wine making as I am beer brewing, but the process is fairly simple. Beer brewing is a little more labor intensive but both processes center around sanitation. Congrats on the first batch. Its almost a negative when your first batch turns out good.....gets you hooked and leads to an empty pocketbook.:D
Tominator
Will samplings be available at the fall blastoff shoot? I don't have any raspberries, but my field is full of blackberries.
Strut10
Will samplings be available at the fall blastoff shoot? Ummmmmmm...................no. Bad combination. I don't have any raspberries, but my field is full of blackberries. They work just the same. There's a few gallons of blackberry downstairs getting happy, too.
