I'm not happy with Gander Mountain

First off this post is not meant to be a company bash. If the Mods see it that way, feel free to delete this. But I need to vent about a pair of hunting pants I bought from Gander Mountain and they lousy customer service they offered.

Last November I went to my local Gander Mountain and they had their insulated Guide Series Waterproof Tech2o Breathable hunting pants on sale. I have always wanted a nice pair of insulated pants and they were on sale for a reasonable price, so I picked them up. I wore the pants twice last fall, I washed them and put them up for the winter.

Now fast forward to opening day of rifle season last weekend. The temperature was chilly but not cold enough for my wool pants. So I put on my Gander Mountain pants and I make my 3/4 mile hike to my treestand. Once there I look down at my pants. I remember thinking, "What the...?" I have 5 small V shaped tears on my left knee and 3 on the right knee. I deduced that when I went through some black berry briars and I must have tore my pants on them. So now I am looking at 8 small tears with insulation sticking out of a few of them. I was mad but I knew I had some camo fabric patch at home.

So I get home and I read, in big print on the tag, "Do Not Iron". The pant material is a VERY thin plastic with a light coat of camo fabric on the outside. No wonder you cannot iron this stuff, it's plastic. The best I can describe the exterior of these pants is Tyvek with a light camo coating.

So I contact Gander Mountain for instructions on how to repair these pants. Guess what? THEY HAVE NO CLUE!:mad: They will have to get back to me. Come on? Am I the first person to have this happen? This material is paper thin.

The next day I get an email from Gander Mountain,

Mr. Hulbert,

I regret to inform you that I have spoken to a couple of the staff members in the hunting apparel dept and they could not think of anything except to use seam sealer to bond it back together. The problem with the material in that situation is it is not strong enough to with stand punctures. This is due to the fact it is made for big game and the fabric has to be quiet. The waterfowl pant material tends to be stronger, but in turn, more noisy.

Again, I would maybe try and explain this to a store manager and see if they could possibly make and exchange for you. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for shopping at Gander Mountain. Please give me a call if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

J***

Not strong enough to withstand punctures!???:eek: Where do these people think that we hunt? On a golf course?? Avoiding berry briars in New York is like trying not to walk on fallen leaves.

I don't know what more I can do at this point. I really don't want to put this onto the store manager. He just sells the pants, he does not make them. I'm mad that after spending big money for these pants, I'm left to patch these pants with camo duct tape. I'm formulating an response but I doubt I will get anywhere. :(

Be forwarned my friends. These Gander Mountain pants are weak and so is their customer service.

Why Not???????? It's His or Her JOB to take care of exactly these kinds of issues!

I would take them back to the store for at least a "Store Credit" and get something different with ripstop fabric.

I know you say the customer service is weak, but I don't really see it that way. I would print out the email and take it down to your local G.M. I would be very suprised if they don't make it right.

This is why I made this post. Maybe I needed to see this with a different pair of eyes. I will try the exchange. Thanks.

But others be forwarned. These pants are not that rugged at all.

Good luck with their csr's or local managers Joe. I have had less than pleasant experiences with the gander store here too and I posted about it back earlier this year I think in the bow room.

Not sure who the guy thought he was(acted like he was a manager), but the old guy who pretended to be a bowtech at the store closest to us who told me my draw length was not 30 inches was sadly mistaken and I was rather irritated at the manner in which he insulted and attempted to humiliate me in front of other customers and my family. He helped lose them my business. I have been back in the store a few times since, but have not bought anything else from them since, dicks has better prices on same stuff anyway and is only about 2 minutes up the road.

To me i would think with the high class representaion they got they would make customers happy!!I now know how costumer service in the hunting industry is top notch, and has to be!!I was ready to trade my pro-hunter in and never buy another thing from them!!Until they fixed my problem within 2wks!!!So talk to them, see what they say!!What do you have to lose??

Being you bought them last november and we are only Oct arent they still under the 1yr warranty anyway ? Just take them back and say the fabric is splitting and exchange them, if they dont carry them anymore get your $$ back or make them give you the next model up. Looks like you are still in the warranty period.
