bigbuckkilla89
At 7:15 this morning i smoked a button buck. He came in behind me and I drew on him at about 5 yards. He ran off about 15 yards and stopped behind a tree. I kept full draw for about 5 minutes and when he stepped out all i could shoot was his neck so I let the arrow fly and heard a smack and he hit the ground. I finally put one down after wounding 2:mad:. Maybe my lucks turning around:).

artisticwhitetails
Im not one who jumps on the ethics police ship quickly, BUT, if you keep taking shots when "only thing I can shoot is the neck", you are going to wound many more. Not much room for error on neck shots with archery gear. JMHO. Luckily, sounds like it worked out for you this time by hitting the spine. Congrats on the kill! FYI both of the shots I took that wounded deer one was quartering away and Im pretty sure I hit him high And one was perfect broadside and I hit her low. Now That I got my sights right on my bow im hitting dead on at out to 30. And I didnt hit the spine.ITwas a pass through in the center of the neck slicing the wind pipe almost in half.... HUNTINGMAN
I shot my buck the other day in the neck and he went down within 40 yards.I have never taken a neck shot before and may never again, but with the deer faceing streight at me and looking up at me,I felt extremely confident about the shot angle or I would have never taken the shot. The arrow went through his jugular and then through the heart,if it was any other angle at all a neck shot would have been out of the question and the deer would have had to wait until the next time we met.Congrats on the harvest. Hoyt03
congrats on the button. It worked out for ya this time, but higher percentage if you wait for a better shot. Congrats again hopefully this opens the flood gates for your season.
backwoods07
I dunno about some of these posts. Not to rattle anyone's cage, but if I don't have a more or less perfect shot opportunity, I don't even think about taking a shot. I would never shoot an animal in the neck or through the front of the chest, no matter where I am hunting or the size of the deer. There are too many variables to deal with that may lead to an animal in a great amount of pain for a very long time. You were fortunate this deer died quickly, but I wouldn't advise just settling for a shot like this again. Congrats on the kill though. I can understand , however, the pressure a young hunter may have self created. Time to live and learn along the lines of your well laid out comments. It also took you wounding two deer to realize you need to sight in your bow? Maybe you should take the rest of the season off and let a few arrows fly at something you can't wound: a target perhaps?
