slugshooter
Well, some of you know the situation I am in lately. Graduated with a degree in May, moved back to Florida, can't find a job...needless to say, making ends meet has been tough, as well as balancing expenses. The bank that my truck is financed through has been hassling the crap out of me, with good reason I guess, but household expenses and food for the kids comes first. Well, the supervisor of the collection area for the vehicle financing department called me last week, giving me a heck of a time. Let me tell you, the customer service with this back is absolutely horrible and they do a wonderful job making you feel like a lowlife because you can't find a job and you care more about your kids eating then anything else. So, I figured heck, I need a job, they need a truck payment, so I will apply for a job with them. I looked them up and found their division, and voila, there is an open position for a Loan Service Counselor, a.k.a. Collection Agent in Raleigh where they are located. Which is cool, because Kari and I want to move back to NC anyway. I submitted a resume' and put this guys name down as an employee reference. I get a call today from them that I wasn't here to get and just checked the voice mail. It was that same guy that talked to me like I was crap, biting his tongue, and saying "Yes, I received your resume' for the open position and I would like to set up an interview with you. Please call me back at blah, blah, blah." I tell you, I couldn't stop laughing. Now, the question is, do I call him back and take it serious, or just ignore it?? :D:D
c_lou
If they took it seriously enough to call you, you should at least hear them out.
Guest USA
That was very clever and just may be an opportunity. Hear them out.
layin on the smackdown
well, if you need a job, and they have a job, i think you should seriously consider calling him back. Plus, its geographically where you and your lady want to be......I went throught the same crap after i graduated from Eastern Illinois...i actually went 2 years working odd jobs trying to land something in my field...It was a very low point in my life...PERSEVERANCE my friend... as Joe Dirt would say "you gotta keep on keepin on" good luck
MichiganHunter
CALL HIM......THEN find your file and erase it.

slugshooter
Well, I called him back, and either he has absolutely no idea who I am (which I doubt), or he is sincere. My wariness of anyone causes me to feel like I am being set up, but here is the thing. It is not like he can get me on the phone and berate me and talk down to me for applying for a job, because then I can go to the home office with a complaint. On the other hand, if he is joshing me, do I go through the expense of going up there for an interview and have him laugh in my face. He asked me if I had any idea what the job position entails. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt what they do, but I can't put it in the terms that I wanted to (which I think he was trying to catch me in), so I had to be a little PC. I am going to call him back tomorrow when I find out my schedule at the grocery store and see if I have more than 10 hours.
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Seems to me if you go to the trouble of applying for the job and they contact you for the job ... and you need a job ... and you can't hardly get by with out a job ... why are you messing around with this one if you aren't sure you even want it? i mean first you say you cant get a job you are qualified and everything you find you are over qualified for ... now you find something in the banking industry where you want to move back to anyhow ... seriously what is the question here? I mean do you even read your own post? Steve
slugshooter
Sure I read it, I typed it, so I must have read it. I guess everything is hunky dory up there in Iowa for you, so since we may all be Socialists in a few months, let's live by the Obama plan and send me a piece of the pie so I don't have to work for it. The main point of the post, and the reasoning behind applying for the job, was to throw this guy for a loop, which I am sure he has never had anyone do before in this fashion. If they want to offer me a job, I'll take it, but I'll be honest, I am not sure how well I would do as a bill collector and have to treat people like crap on the phone like they do so well. As far as the jobs and overqualification. That is what I have been told in interviews. I am overqualified to slice deli meat as I am doing now, well, by education standards, I am, even though this is the first job I have ever had doing that, but I am still doing it, to help put food on the table. What's wrong with finding something better? Nothing.
unioncountyslayer
Come on back to NC buddy. My wife is from Raleigh. It's a nice city, even with all the Yankee transplants.
OJR
I think you need to step back just a bit and look as to how you are approaching this job thing! You figure you have all the answers as to how people or potential employers are supposed to look at your resume and what you have to offer! It doesn't work that way! I was on the other side of the table and hired several hundred people in my lifetime and I looked at resume, phone interviews and then the actual interview! It is amazing what people will do and how they thing they are qualified to be the president of any company when they have a hard time coming through the door and talking to the interviewer! Times are not the greatest right now and just because you have a degree, doesn't mean you can walk on water! Enough of this! OJR

wtnhunt
Don't know what to tell you Marc. Is Kari going to be happy in NC? Do you really want to go through another move, not to mention moving is not cheap. As much as I wanted to get away from the Orlando area, think if I was in your shoes I would stay put a while and work on getting more stable before making this type of move. All I know to tell you buddy is pray about it.
pendog
Take the job and become one of the good guys in the banking industry. When you call to collect be polite, you have been there and know how the people are feeling. Also they would stop hounding you about the truck if you worked there;) I believe if you dont like things change them from the inside, i might run for president someday because complaining about things doesn't seem to be working for any of us:D

I am not applying for jobs to be President of a company, but the amount of jobs I have applied for is obscene. Yes, I have been told in interviews that I am overqualified based simply on me taking the LSAT. I have also drove 45 minutes for an interview where the whole interview I sat there and listened to the guy tell me all the reasons why I wouldn't get the job. I get letter rejections and emails everyday telling me I haven't been selected for an interview. I never said I could walk on water, nor do I feel I can walk on water, but when you worry about being homeless because you're not sure if you can make rent, being forced out of a home and having to move after 45 days because the homeowner can't make a $400 house payment, wondering what your kids are gonna eat from day to day, selling off stuff in yard sales, hiding your vehicle that you use to get to your 10 hour a week job just to earn a little money. You get a little worried and aggravated. Then, to top it all off, your wife is being forced to resign from her job because she does her job better than her co-worker who is screwing one of the doctors. Then you know our dilemma. I guess I could just join the Obama side and blame Bush and jump on the bandwagon, but I'm not gonna do that, because I know what he stands for. The sad part is, we don't get any support from our "family" that we moved down here closer to be with because what they said they were gonna do, they haven't done, so I guess I come on here looking for some support from another family, but then I get responses like these. Thanks to all those that have lent me support over these last few months. To the others that don't care, I hope they don't ever have to go through what we have. There are a lot of things that I have been dealing with down here that I won't tell anyone on here, and probably never will, because it is of a personal family nature. Just know that things are not well here, and my whole family could get ripped apart in one of the worst ways imaginable.

All I know to tell you buddy is pray about it. Kari regrets moving back down here, and wishes she hadn't talked me into it. She misses NC as much as I do, and she loves Raleigh. I agree that moving is expensive, but unfortunately, if I did take a job out of state like that, I would go by myself initially and move them up in the summer. Not the best option, but it gets us out of here. Actually, she is originally from Orlando, and would like to move back, the trick is getting a job there. pendog
Really talk to them about the job, it can't hurt to listen to what they can offer you. Maybe the change in living area will help the situation as well. We are still praying that things work out for you and your family:)

slugshooter
Is there anyway Kari can get a job back in NC?? Prayers for you and your family. She would probably have an easier time in Raleigh than she did in Fayetteville. In Fayetteville, she actually had people throw her resume' away in front of her telling her that she could take their job. Nice huh?
