clrj3514
One of my huntin dogs, Homer, died today. My grandaddy found him in the woods without a mark on him and no blood in his nose or mouth or around/under him on the ground. I didn't see him. Grandaddy just brought me his collars. We use a tracking system with tracking collars to keep up with them and we noticed he kept tracking in one spot. I kinda figured all day that he was dead but i couldnt bring myself to say it. Later on, he was still in that area and wouldn't come out of the woods when we hollered to him and we knew it wasn't right because usually if he isn't running a deer, he'll come on to ya. Plus, he hasn't been running right the whole year. Grandaddy said it looks like he had a heart attack. What ya'll think?

Turkeygirl
Wow, very sorry to hear about your dog! At least he died doing what he loved. If he was old, my guess would be a heart problem...probably did not suffer. Remember the good times.
beagleboy
Sorry for the loss. It's never easy to easy a hunting partner go. Several of my hunting beagles have been chasing rabbits in the sky. It's sad to see them go.
c_lou
I am sorry for your loss. I have talked to a lot of people that say a dog knows when his/her time is coming and they will wonder away to die alone. One guy inparticular saw his dog running back to his woods, so he called for him to stop and come, but the dog stopped, looked at him, and just kept going. He found the dog later that night, curled up peacefully just inside the woods.
