well i flew home from class and got up in my tree around 3:00 hoping to atleast see a deer. i havent even gotten a glimpse of one since two weeks ago and lastnight wasnt looking good. around 5:15 i heard some walking right out in front of my tree and sure enough at 5:30 here comes a deer. it was right at dark, but i could make out some headgear on the deer. he came right in and took a hard left and turned broadside to me, but not before he stared at the light on my sights for a few minutes. i could just make out the silhouette of the deer when i let the arrow fly at 15 yards. i could barely see through the peep! heard him go down, double lung shot and only ran 40 yards. this is my first buck with a bow and im sure proud of this little guy. old slickhead is in trouble next:D. if anyone can tell me how to get some pics up ill put some on. hope your all having a good season!

.....although sounds like you were pushing your luck at last legal shooting time...you got lucky getting that deer when you could barely see it through your peep.

NYDEC WEBSITE:

Hunting Hours

Big game hunting hours are sunrise to sunset.

It is unlawful to hunt big game with:

  • A firearm or bow aided by any artificial light or a laser that projects a beam toward the target.

I've asked a DEC Officers for their definitions of these regulations and most of them said: "If theres any doubt in our minds...you get a ticket and possibly more". One even stated that he was wondering if I was trying to get around the law.

I told him that I had people asking me what my interpretation was. He said: "If it sounds like it's on the line legally of being right or wrong...it's already too close to risk it".

*Being 16yrs old is no excuse for being unsafe and illegal*

right at dark... stared at the light on your sights... could just make out the silhouette of the deer... could barely see through the peep??

And all this at only 15 yards?

This reeks of "past legal shooting time".

What do you do for rifle season??:(

That coming from a real Law Enforcement Officer should carry enough validity to hopefully make a judgement change in this young hunters thought processes.

Hopefully...;)
