JakeN
im not sure if i just made up the name or i heard it somewhere and i somehow retained it. what do you guys think of grunting without seeing deer. ive always tried to grunt only to get the attention of a passing buck. but as time goes by in the stand, staring at my camo looking for hidden messages i cant seem to keep my hands off the grunt tube. grunting without seeing or hearing a deer good or bad? another one i just stumbled upon a new rub a large one almost had to change the shorts large... its less than three days old hunt it asap?? aujack
i think it is good, i've always thought deer would come to a grunt during the rut at least.
Illinois59
I do it all the time. I scan the woods before i do it though.
sskybnd
i dont grunt blindly, but i will use a fawn bleat blindly, in hoping i can call in a doe, it seems to work for me ive had does come in along with yotes.
bghunter777
I have called in several good bucks blind grunting. as for hunting over a good rub it cant hurt that means a good buck is in the area somewhere. there are some other factors that make a good stand though other than rubs. I have an area that is almost strictly used after dark gets rubbed to death but i would not hunt it based on when deer are there
JakeN
thanks guys and as for that rub its under one of my stands already. its about ten yards off a feild and ive noticed form another close by stand that the deer are walking under it to get into the feild.(following the brush edges throught the hardwoods and into the feild) mainly just before dark. ive hunted it once this season 3 does right under me... with the rut approaching i might try to slip back in there on of these nights if i can get off work!!!! LifeNRA
Last few days of archery season, what do you have to loose! I just read an article about blind calling for deer during the rut. When its crunch time, break them out!
wtnhunt
I have had great success with blind calling in the past. Works especially well in places where a deer has to come around to see where the grunts are coming from.
c_lou
I shot one of my bucks after he came in to me blind calling. It wasn't 10 minutes after I put the grunt tube down. Now, was he coming before the grunt, I don't know, he came up over a hill right to me.
mastr001
This past weekend i was blind calling and one called back, before i knew it i had a button buck and two does come in and they feed right infront of me and then moved behind me and i thought they were gone, so I started blind calling and did this two different times and i turned around and saw the belly of a doe that was bedded down about forty yards behind me and when i was looking she got up when all i saw was two big body deer came in and then i found out that there was about 5 deer bedded down right behind me in the cover. So when the two big body deer came in about five min after my blind grunting the does bedded down got up and went with the other deer, couldnt see what they were but they were big. So I have always blind grunted and will always do it have had lots of success with it.
jaret
I haven't had much luck with a grunt tube, but I have blindly called with the primos doe can and had some luck with it. I think it all depends when you do it (pre-rut, rut, or post rut) and how much you do it.
Orion_70
It depends on the time of year and the area I'm hunting. I've done it in the past with success, but have had more success when I've seen the deer or heard it moving in the thicket and grunted it out. I've tried to not grunt unless I've seen or heard them now or unless the rut is really on.
elnor
Here is the result from a blind grunting & rattling session I conducted last week: As you might guess, I'm a big fan. Read my post on "Big Eight" for details.
