Well I have over 100 pics of this guy on the trail cams and I yesterday morning I got to pose in a pic with him!!!! This guy has been very visible on the trail cam on night pics and I knew I was in his core area. I saw him twice this year but not closer than 60 yards. I've had my climber hung for about three weeks on the same tree and only hunted it twice. Well the third time was the charm yesterday morning. Got up in there and about 7:35 I looked to my southwest and saw him at about 50 yards. I wasn't sure at first, then he turned his head and I knew immediately which buck he was. The "perfect 8" is what I named him. I never stood up. He came behind some trees at about 35 yards and I drew my bow sitting down. He stepped out and I gave him the maaaaaaa and he stopped. I let the FMJ's with a shuttle T-lock and tracer nock fly! That bad boy lit up and disappeared perfect behind the shoulder. He gave a big ole mule kick and ran about 45 yards and stopped and looked back. He had no clue what hit him. Then I see that tail flick and small bobble and he took off. As he was going away he ran into a small tree and I knew he was in trouble. He disappeared at about 80 yards away. It was funny I was shaking so bad that when I called my dad to tell him he girlfriend was standing like 5 feet away and she could hear my breathing in the phone! I gave him a 1:30 even though my arrow went straight through him and stuck in the log behind him and was covered literally in blood. We trailed him and 100 yards later he was mine....

It's been a goal of mine for the last 3 years to get a pope and young buck down with a bow. I've killed bigger with a gun, but not a bow. Well from they rough measurements that I've got he should gross a little over 130 inches and he is so symetrical I should have the job done!!! I don't think I've ever been so excited about a deer I've killed. I can't stop smiling. I know he isn't huge by any means, but when you work so hard for something it's such a great feeling to accomplish your goal. He field dressed at 174 lbs and they figure him to be either 3.5 or 4.5 years old. He is definitely on the way to the taxidermist later today when they get him caped out. We also are almost positive this is the deer that my dad and I both passed on last year on opening day of shotgun season. He looks identical except he added about 15 inches of total score this year.......Now it's time to work on a few more does...
