mastr001
This past weekend i was hunting and saturday evening i had a doe come up behind me and i know she didnt smell me but i was in my summit climber about fifteen feet up in a pine tree and she got about ten yards from me just looked right up at me. i didnt move or anything. And on sunday mouring i had a doe come from another direction and she got about fifteen yards away from me and just looked right up at me. Like i said they didnt smell me, but after they looked up at me they didnt stomp there foot or anything just keep looking and then moved off. And sunday i had about four deer bedded about thirty yards right behind me. What are some ideas. am i not high enough or i have always wondered about how deer can see UV light. What are your thoughts and what can i do to change.
kingfisherfd2
Sounds like it is time to move stands. You might have been picked off by those deer at another time, and now they check to see if you are there or not. You could move 20 yards and be good to go again. wtnhunt
Deer are probably where your stands are more often than you are, maybe the does noticed something different and it caught their attention. Being that the does did not blow or stomp or take off, would guess that they were not alarmed.

Guest mydogjake
I have a Doe with 2 yearlings that come to my feeder and stand every day. She always looks up at me. I think she knows something is up there or something looks differant but is not spooked and goes over to continue eating. But with a new stand placement and deer knowing your there after one day, I think I would move also
Illinois59
Secure the backstraps on the base of the climber. The wind may be making them move. I strap mine tight to the base so that they cannot move.

I strap mine tight to the base so that they cannot move. Good tip there. Don't think alot of guys notice there straps moving since it is below there feet. I also stap mine tight to the bottom of my stand before i climb. Just move your stand a few trees over and i don't think you will have a problem. They may have just seen some minor movement from a distance. I had a deer pick me out of a tree a couple of weeks ago that i had never hunted. She noticed me about 60 yrds away with wind in my favor. She didn't like what she seen and just did a large circle around me. Good luck.
Orion_70
One problem with pine trees is getting enough cover around you to break up your silhouette. Unless there's low limbs around you on that pine tree, the higher the better is what I have found. I just try to get cover around me whether it's 15 ft or 30 ft. mastr001
i usually do put my straps tight to the bottom of my climber, but i did forget that this time. And there were some dead branches that after i got done hunting on sunday i broke them so i could get up about another 5 feet. The tree where my climber is like the only tree around that i can put it on b/c all the other trees just wont work. I can only see about forty yards and if i moved it i would only be about to see about fifteen yards. Out of about 9 does only two looked up at me. And i am in a location where alot of rubs to my right and pawings to my left. Do you think its worth it to move and lose sight of all the sign, knowing where the deer come from i wouldnt be able to see anymore. And i have a the wind in my favor now and if i move trees it may not be the case. Since the rut should be hitting this weekend i am going to stay in my climber all day, should i just give the tree another shot and if it happens again just move it half way through the hunt? sskybnd
im with wtnhunt, the deer might have cought something out of the norm, i had an 8 point do that to me last year, wind was right and he just looked up at me, looking at him to get into position to shoot, he just bolted out of there. NY_Bowhunter14
you have to remember... you are in a deers "home" so when something is out of place, they will notice it... it may take them a few weeks to get used to that stand there, but you should be all good to go... Tominator
I got pegged by a 3 pointer Sunday night. I couldn't believe it. I have no idea how he saw me. I was 24 feet up a tree. Only thing I can think is that he was slightly down wind of me, and I may have been silouhetted against the sky as I was perched near the edge of the timber on the side of a hill. Stinger-Hunter
Deer are tricky. If it were shotgun it wouldn't be a problem. I have had deer that saw me, look at me from every angle, hid behind a tree and then peeked around all sneeky - then I shoot them - with bow it is different. I had a deer at a running pace stop dead in her tracks and look right up at me and then take off too. You can't predict. Do the best you can. A neat trick would be to put up another stand 20 yards away, when they look up at the old stand you have them in your sights, but that is a lot of trouble. I say move your stand slightly.
