i was not spotlighting deer, and the sun hadnt even gone down past the tree line.i could clearly see the deer, the antlers, and the vitals. if you look outside around 4:15 ro 4:30 it is still light out. i am not some cheating, unethical, disrespectful hunter. look outside your window around 4:30 folks. i have seen shots on Monster Buck movies when the sun was actually gone from the sky. is the G5 Meta Peep easier to see through in cloudy/fading light conditions? if so ill switch to it but it was plenty light for a good shot. i am not some unethical, disrespectful hunter. i know what is a good shot and a bad shot, and i have respect for these animals. if you still have a problem with this, or with me, send me a message. thank you.

I am glad you are re-thinking this, but what you say now is completely different than what you wrote prior....

This is very well run and moderated forum, moderated by members and actual moderators themselves. We pride ourselves on being ethical, and honest in what we post. Don't give then anti's anything to copy and paste into other forums, esp. when it has came from the Realtree forums.

Now that's out of the way, welcome to the forums....there are a lot of good people in here, and the prostaffers frequent here a lot.

around 5:15 i heard some walking right out in front of my tree and sure enough at 5:30 here comes a deer. it was right at dark, but i could make out some headgear on the deer. he came right in and took a hard left and turned broadside to me, but not before he stared at the light on my sights for a few minutes. i could just make out the silhouette of the deer when i let the arrow fly at 15 yards. i could barely see through the peep! heard him go down, double lung shot and only ran 40 yards. this is my first buck with a bow and im sure proud of this little guy.

the silhouette was not a true judgment on my part. the deer was at 5:30, now 4:30 with daylight savings. i will admit that part was a misjudgment in terms of how well i could see. if it was too dark too shoot, i wouldn't and i know when that time is. the shot was double lung, and if someone can hit that when its dark then im amazed. when i got down from the tree, thats when it was truly dark to the point where it wouldve been unethical

I dont know you personally...so my reply to your other thread was based purely on the way I was taught to respect the regulations. My reply was a "Knee-Jerk" reaction to what I saw, in type only, as an obvious disregard for the regulations and the privelege we are all given hunting in this state.

I've been in situations hunting here where the deer come in right at the "Sunset" and I have to sit back and watch the show...all is not lost though. It's a great time to learn more about the where and when information that the deer give me while I enjoy a beautiful scene in nature.

MeanWhile <-----<<< and theres a good reason they call it that(cause it's just plain mean to sit there and be able to do nothing)...it gets committed to memory and added to the soon updated game plan for the next outting;)

I may walk out of the woods in the dark using a light...but I've never had to use one of any kind when I could legally take a deer.

Congrats on your Bow Trophy

I hope that your successful, safe, and teach others about how to be that way.

cant we all just get along, cant you see this constant fighting is breaking us all apart...

Huh? No one is fighting, he has been welcomed to the forums, as everyone usually is. Go and read his original post... then see that he himself started this one also. No one is arguing and we are simply telling him that what he is claiming he did in the original post is illegal in NY, where he resides. Members get banned for admitting to committing crimes in these forums. He is getting a "hint, hint" since he is a new member. By us not policing our own, it gives any anti hunter that comes in here ammo against us hunters as a whole.

BTW, welcome to the forums... :D

I do have to give him the benefit of the doubt though. He said he shot it at 5:30 and if everyone would look up in the hunting and trapping guide for NY they would see that it is legal shooting light is until 5:49 on Oct 31st. I also have problems seeing out of my peep during bow season during low light situations and have taught myself how to shoot with not having to use it since most states i hunt in allow you to shoot deer 1/2 hour before and after sunset. I guess it is just a lesson learned on being sure to tell your exact story and for some people not to jump to conclusions. Just my 2 cents not that they count for anything. LOL.

alright, alright guys lets calm it down. we all know the story and even though it was legal, it was still a risky shot considering the light fading fast. lets just put it all behind. this is whitetail hunting, not a debate:).

LOL...thats "Debatable";):D

According to Wikipedia=

Thread hijacking in internet forum communication is the act of steering a discussion off-topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the subject at hand.

While this can be an intentional act of trolling, it is often accidental - caused by participants in the discussion responding to a throwaway remark, thus taking the thread off at a tangent to the original subject matter. The results often provoke a feeling of resentment from the author of the original post.

I think this will qualify...LOL

(no feelings of resentment please...this is an attempt to interject some humor)
