I moved this from the lounge due to major underlying factors...

So, there i am watching the Bears getting smoked by one of 2 teams with an 0-7 record, when i realize its time to hit the woods. So i head out around 1:30 p.m.

I am in the stand and ready to give flight to the arrow by 2:00 p.m. It was not the ideal weather for N/NW IL for November 2nd, hovering around the 70 degree mark with a wind out of the s/sw. I am doing a little rattling and a little calling. There are several hot bedding areas within 100 -150 yds of my stand, so i am expecting some late movemnet due to the temps. It gets to be about 4:30 (the day after the time change) and sunset is around 4:53 p.m. I haven't seen anything yet, but the more recent pattern has been does getting up from the bedding area and moving through my stand site to feed. I catch a little bit of movement around the bedding area...no need to grab the binocs, i can clearly see it is of bipedial nature...this idiot walks the entire way through a huge bedding area of chest high prairie grass and continues his path along the treeline of a major funnel i am hunting (not to mention he decided it was a good idea to go out with a half hour of daylight left). He continues to cut through the woods and disapears. he is one of 5 other morans that hunt the ground that i do... I don't think i have ever had the earge to kick someone in the head as bad as i did at that moment in time. I had gotten permission from the neighboring farmer to access my stand through his field just so i wouldn't irritate those bedding areas and so i had a more elusive way in and out of the stand. The "idiot" got within 40 yds of my stand and still never knew i was there. I waited about 10 minutes and figured this guy blew my whole hunt... so i got down and headed out extremely angry. i thought long and hard about waiting by this guys vehicle to have a word with him, but i knew that things would escalate quickly so i left.Everything i have been avoiding, all the passing on small bucks and young does, all the little things i have been doing to keep this spot a hot spot just gets crushed in the matter of minutes do to people just being stupid!:mad::mad:

The good thing is that none of these guys know of the two monsters that i have on my camera that lurk in the shadows out there...they are clueless!!!:p:p

i am heading to Coles county as of tuesday evening for the next 11 days in an effort to find another wall hanger! Thank god i don't have to deal with stupid people down there!:D

I apologize for the lengthy rant, but i really had to vent and share this with some of you. any input would be greatly appreciated..

At least the bears won!

last year some thing of the same nature happened to me. that type of thing really gets under my skin. if that guy hunts that area regularly or has permision to hunt the same land as you, maybe you should let him kno that you are hunting that area and tell him to stay away or even leave him a letter under his windshield wiper explaining the situation. good luck

I feel your anger. Last year on opening day of th NY gun season I had the same problem with better results though. I got in my stand half hour before 1st light and was all settled in for a great hunt. I've scouted this area and found lots of good sign, and nobody else hunts it, until now. About 1/2 hr after light, I see a nice buck walk into the thick cover 200 yrds from my stand. 2 hrs later I hear something behind me so I spin around and see a moron tracking me, or atleast it looked like it anyways. He must have spotted me in my orange vest and tried to sneek below me thinking I haven't noticed him. So he marcks on into the thicket were the buck went. Then I hear something above me and here comes his buddy, running, tripping and making as much noise a one person could possibly make. They meet up stand and talk for a few and decide to walk 10 YARDS from my stand back the they came and out of sight. I'm all pissed off now and start lowering my gun so I can give the a piece of my mind. I just happen to look up and see the nice 6 pt come out of the thicket 40 yrds away. I pulled my gun back up( only lowered it 4 ft) and shot hte buck. When I got down, they were running tword me I think hping to steal my deer but quickly turned away when I turned to them and chambered another round. Needless to say they wasted no time getting out of there. So its not just you, everyone has this problem. Just thought I'd share mine with you.

Someone blowing your hunt can be extremely disappointing. At least the guy has permission to hunt there. I remember two hunts that were stopped earlier by people who were not supposed to be there.

Once I am in stand and here comes 6 guys with their hunting dogs. It was the opening weekend of pheasant season in Kansas and they figured that since they had permission to hunt the field next to the land I was on and since "no one" was around, then they'd just hunt it as well. Another time I go to my stand in the dark, just to find a guy in it. He said he had permission, which I knew he didn't, and once he knew I knew he was lying, he then got down and walked out. Right down the main trail.

I know this happens to everyone, but it doesn't make it easier. The worst part is the 90 mile drive from my house to this area, just to have the hunt over before it even started.

I feel your pain. I share the same woods with 23 other members in our hunting club. Some feel the need to scout around everytime they come and you just never know where they've been tromping around while they are there. At least our rules prohibit them from walking around the woods during the first 3 and last 3 hours of daylight. You always wonder where they've been come time for an afternoon hunt though.

The biggest kick in the butt is the fact that i met his guy earlier in the season, and he asked about my 4 wheeler...I, as any good hunter would do, mentioned that if i was out hunting and he got one, not to hesitate to ask me for help, just meet me by the truck when im out of the woods. he knows i have a stand in that area, just didn't seem to care whether i was hunting it or not...And its not that i am only fired up about what he did yesterday, i just happen to witness his stupidity in action...what really makes me wonder is what kind of crap these degenerates do that i haven't seen???:confused::confused: I finally understand why none of them haven't taken anything yet this season...

hopefully this time change will put these warriors into hibernation!!!!

I've had something like that happen too just this year, except I had a buck coming to within bow range and the guy ran it off. It's one of those things that happens. Sometimes those hunters are so noisy and obvious though the deer aren't alarmed. They simply stay hidden in cover and wait for them to pass through. If you've taken those extra steps to go undetected and there's enough daylight left, then you still may have a shot and should stay in your stand or blind.

I know what you mean about putting in the time and someone else ruining it for you. We have a lot of roadside hunters, and some tresspassers. They have somehow eluded capture. Though last weekend I was fixing fence and watched a truck pull up to our fence line not 100 yards from me and begin to let someone out. I jumped in the truck and headed their way and they quickly departed. What irritates me is all the work and effort I put in, passing on shots feeding scouting and these guys reap the benefits. It makes you like it's all worthless. But never the less we'll keep on proding forward.

That sounds like a larger problem than what i am dealing with. They are actually breaking the law....the deer hunting challenged individuals i am dealing with just really have no clue on what it takes to be a successful bow hunter...and they have no idea that they are contaminating areas by doing the dumb things they do: 4 stands in a 60 yrd line in a very small chunk of timber, no scent control or even scent awareness, walking 400 + yards to hunt for 20 minutes in 70 degree temps, bringing everyone and their brother out to hunt with them etc. i have recently moved to this area from central illinois, so this is my first year bowhunting this spot, but on my first day out scouting i noticed 2 stands had bait around them which is illegal in IL, not to mention we are a county that has had 2 confirmed cases of CWD, and throughout the day i counted 14 different stands. This is 366 acres, but most of it makes up the 18 hole golf course which is surrounded by hardwoods, agriculture and native prairie..so there isn't really a reason to have 14 different stands, especially piled on top of each other. Like i said before, the only good thing is that they really have no idea about the 2 giants i have on my trail cam...ones a 165 inch 13 ptr, and the others a 155 inch 10 ptr...I have only had one option, to take advantage of their stupidity...just hope it works out

at this point in my life, it is not feaseable for me to lease anything...pretty young in my field of work, mortgage, bills etc...I think the best thing for me to do is just deal with it, and maybe confront these guys on a day that i am not so angry and see what their goals and objectives are. I enjoy trying to grow big deer and managing herds to some extent; i understand they may not have the same goals as i do. i guess the bottom line here is that there needs to be some sort of structure developed, especially when it comes to that many people hunting the same ground. I have been some what spoiled in my recent years and never had to really deal with this many people on one peice of property.

I am a hardcore hunter, and they may not be...

that being said, i appreciate all the input and opening my eyes to some different perspectives. i will try and work on this with a more positive attitude.

Good Luck to all and good huntin!:D

Ok, here are my 2 cents worth. Here is what i would recommend. Give the guy a call or stop by and see if you can set up some sort of system ie, calling, text message, email to let each other know where you are setting up on a certain day or time. That way you wont mess up his hunt and vice versa, heck, you can even make it seem like his idea.

Work it out and you can both enjoy the same piece of property.
