Well.......the 2008 edition of the OTPG Fall Blast Off is in the books. There were 11 folks.......some OTPG members, some FOTPG (Friends of the OTPG)..........in attendance. W e met at the Fire Mountain Grill in Indiana, PA at 11:00 AM for lunch. Clockwise from lower left we have Rodney (FOTPG), Silverado Kid, Hangunnr, Van (FOTPG), Iron Buck, Strut10, Jordan (FOTPG), Pudd, Snapper and Phil (FOTPG). Missing from the photo, but joining us at the range was Uncle John.DSC03402-1-1.jpg

My 11 year old son, Jordan shows that anyone can handle a magnum as he rings steel at 300 yards with his first ever shot from an OTPG gun......a .300 Win Mag.

Here, Iron Buck goes long and smacks the gong at 300 yards with my .375 Weatherby Mag............dispelling the old wive's tale that hard hitters and mudhole stompers are not accurate.

Uncle John demonstrates excellent field form and rings steel at 300 yards from a sitting position with his .338 RUM.

FOTPG Phil goes long with his good lookin' .264 Win Mag. Is that steel I hear again?? Yep!!!

FOTPG Van shows off a beautiful, vintage West German Mark V Deluxe Weatherby in .224 Weatherby Magnum.

Here, Van and Jordan prove that the OTPG has nothing to do with recoil. That's a .17 CCM (Cooper Centerfire Magnum) they're shooting.

Show up at an OTPG event with a gun that smells of cocoa and you are still welcome to shoot. Wittle wee guns are permitted at OTPG events. We're an accomodating bunch. All we require is that you slip on the Pansy Gun Gown and you are free to have at it. Here, Rod and Hangunnr grovel with a couple sub-OTPG pea shooters.

But enough of the short range, chip shot sort of stuff.

We then moved the action back to the 600 yard mark to separate the men from the girls. We rang steel from the long mark with a .270 Weatherby Mag, a 7mm STW and a .300 Win Mag........with boring regularity. Here's a shot of my little 11 year old man as he pops steel (an 8" round plate) from "out there". The target he is shooting at is not visible. But it's between the 2 white rectangles that you see. For scale.......the white rectangles are 3 feet by 4 feet and have 12" Shoot-N-See targets on them.

By the end of the day, we had eaten for 1 hour and shot for 5 hours. I have not calculated the tons of energy we tossed down range Sunday. But I am certain that it was enough to lower the far hill a few feet. A GREAT time was had by all in attendance. Shame on you for 6 weeks if you missed it.

That looks like fun guys! Sure wish it wasn't so far or I'd be right there makin' some noise with ya!:D

You have no idea until you've been there. :D;)

It ain't that far, either. Definitely worth the ride. Hopefully you and Eric and everyone else can make an OTPG shooting event at some point.

Wow, that's just too cool.

While I didn't make it in person (long, long ways from Texas), I was there in spirit. A friend showed up for the firearms opener of deer season with a brand new 338 Lapua! Holy cow, talk about a sniper round!!! I'm not the world's best long range shooter, but even I could consistently hit soccer ball sized rocks at 500+ yards. It was sweeeeettttt.

This edition of the Blastoff was a great time. Some new friends joined us for a lot of blasting and blabbing. I believe everyone had a great time. I think we would've shot for a couple more hours if'n the daylight would of held.

Congrats to Struts son Jordan on earning his OTPG colors!! I told him I was gonna shave his head if he put a miss in my rifle. Even with that pressure he came through with a center hit on the 300yd gong. The smile on his face alone was worth the 485 mile drive out there.

There wasn't much issue with the 8" gong at 600yds. I guess I'll have to come up with a more challenging target for the next gathering......that is if the new beloved leader we now have heading this country allows us to still own firearms...

I just got off the phone with a State Rep. for PA (he's buying a gun that I had on gunbroker). Any rate...I'm gonna try to see if he'll be interested in the spring fling. In conversation...I know he has a .300 win. mag. ;)

Get him joined up on the forums and in the OTPG. ;)

We could use some representation in Harrisburg..................then Washington D.C.

Maybe a Magnum Shooter's Bill of Rights. :D

Awesome pictures guys!!

-Strut.....-a wonderful event...and great to see your son participating, as well....

That's what the Blast Off is all about...............Good food, good people and good fun. ;) Never hurts to add young'uns to the hallowed fold either. Just goes to show the nay-sayers and wannabes that a feller (or gal or 11 year old) can shoot a magnum, hit the target and not die. ;)

-again- I hope to be able to come down and take part in an OTPG event one of these days...

-Norma would have a blast...

Sure.............you'll go to Colorado to hunt elk but you won't come to PA to shoot big guns.:D:D:D

We'd LOVE to have you and Norma show up one day. ;)
