Jimfrompa
After 36 years of hunting with a bow MS and a heart attack have made it hard for me to continue using a bow with the stedyness needed to have a quick and accurate shot. So i have been contemplating a crossbow. I have a limited budget $500.00 and would like some input on what would be the best value for the money concidering my health and need to have a quick clean kill. Thank you in advance, Jim
LifeNRA
I got my father to get a Xbow, He has a Parker Safari Magnum. The best thing you can do is just like buying a regular bow, go out and shoot them all. Pick one that you like in your price range. We shot them all, the TenPoints were nice, but EXPENSIVE! I also found out that some Xbows are LOUD too, Excalibur being the loudest! There are some nice package deals for the price of some that do not offer anything but the Xbow itself. The lower end Xbows, well, are just that. We really didn't like any of them. Shop wisely, good luck!
Flintlock1776
$500 may get you in the cross bow. If you do get one please try at a local Pro Shop. I've been there done that in big box stores on compound bows and found I am better server by a Pro Shop person over a big box store deal. johnf
I use a Horton and really like it. I've had complete pass throughs and accuracy is good. If I had my druthers (southern term) I'd get a low lbs 45-55lb compound with a lot of let off. I think you would be just as happy with it. Cross bows are accurate and a little easier to shoot, but they are also heavy, loud, cumbersome and I've been busted a bunch picking the thing off my lap.
